we have decided to set up our two tents in our shed (the only option in the house was the guest room closet... egads.) the thing we are concerned with the most growing outside the house is the potential for the flyover detection/heat sensors and all that. what are the risks associated with this? are there any ways of shielding the heat signature? we are building a fake wall in the back of the shed, so could we build something around the tents in this space that would help?

if ya figure it out let me know, while my shed is house sized I'm always interested in concealment

yeah i got a simple solution! a barrier of lead totally engulfing your plants thats one and half feet thick!

    gl!

If you are setting up 2 tents in a shed be hind the house. The heat sensors are going to be the least thing to worry about. What ya got going? You in dirt or ?

Guess no one knows that mylar does this...... and if you are venting into say and attic or shed that should accumulate heat there is always ceramic insulated paint that does the same job. Plus if used in an attic it will keep your house way cooler.

Hell people hiding in the woods can evade FLIR using those cheap emergence blankets unless they are in an opening. vegetation puts off a heat signature and if you are below if (like some trees) the mylar would allow you to be undetected, though if you were in just a field of grass they could spot you because of a sudden cold spot.

There is tons of information at your finger tips if you take the time to really look into it.

we are planting in dirt pots, and we were going to run the exhaust outside of the shed, through a top vent (kinda like an attic vent). our tents have mylar but i suppose we were more worried about the exhaust coming out...

exhaust (smell),heat, noise and traffic in and out of the shed.

What area are you in???? Cause I would think that keeping down temps inside a shed would be a HUGE pain in the ass.

i'm pretty far north, where winter is at least 6 months long, so i'm more worried about the heating in the wintertime. that's why i'm concerned about the heat coming out of the shed in the winter, i think it would stand out more, whereas in the summer when the air outside is hot, it would blend more....

should i exhaust into the shed during the winter? i have a filter, not worried about smell....

shed is right next to house, and not a lot of neighbors. not too worried about what ppl can see, cause they can't really see into my yard...

One problem I can see is in the winter you're going to be melting all the snow off the shed due to the temps inside from the lights and heater. I would def. be sketched about what that would look like.

    Screw Flyovers, worry about snoops!

A cop is MUCH more likely to break into your shed for a peek versus your house without a warrant...I agree with sticky 100% about the snow on the roof(or lack there of)...FIRST thing i thought of when I read your post, then stick rightly pointed it out.

You need to worry about extension cords coming and going too...(if no electricity in the shed)...thats obsiously a dead giveaway....

you can purchase a pad to put over your roof if you are really worried about flyovers.

Just be careful...invest in a cheap motion sensor...or a camera...I mean if you are growing in a shed...you need extra security, IMHO.

You should vent through the floor or something...if that's possible. It's gotta be disguised...you CANNOT afford someone asking the question, "what's in that shed over there?"

I just donot like the sound of 2 tents in a shed in the back yard.

I would be freaked out the whole grow and worried about too much shit!

well, like i said, the only other option was the guest room closet, and what's more what's gonna happen when the dropper-inners are asking why the closet door is locked, or constantly having to move the whole shindig somewhere else temporary(attic??? blazing hot????)

the shed is the other idea that we came up with. it's a pretty friggin big shed, and it's got a lot of room to conceal/build whatever we need to do for our tents. like i said, we are planning on building a fake back wall (the shed is a good 20 feet deep, pretty tall, with a big loft you can almost stand in) and putting our tents in there. it's already wired, subpanel and all, with plenty of power for whatever we need. no cords running across the lawn, not many neighbors watching us tromp through snow out there all the time (we're outside all the time anyway, we have hyper lab puppies that love snow....)

i really appreciate everyone's help so far! this shed thing is really the only option we could come up with, so i'm just trying the best i can to take as many precautions as possible. just for clarification, it's not a shanty little shed, but almost like a small detached garage. workbenches and lights and beer fridge and all.... (i know, most ppl think "shed" as dark creepy lean-to where you stuff the lawnmower... : )

    LET THE GROWING BEGIN!

Sounds like your on top of things. More like a pole barn then a shed.

Good luck to you and you have to keep us posted on the grow.

I dunno if I'd get to shook about IR. The guys are right on about snoops, especially neighbor kids. A good lock, scrubber and outdoor motion light should do the job for ya tho. If you really want to know who's been prowling a cheap game camera from Cabelas.com will snap a pic of anybody coming or going.

good luck...some pics of the final set would be cool.

    cheers,

thanks to all! i think we were on the right track, but will vent underneath the shed. there is a decent amount of space under there, enough to disperse the heat, and not melt snow around it. i suppose as far as the snow on top, we'll see, and if it doesn't stick to the top/too warm and melts, we can add some thermal blanket layers on top of our grow "room" in between the main floor and loft. will post pix when we get it set up, make sure we're not doing anything drastically dumb! thanks again!

Dude saying the shed is 20 ft. deep and already has power ran to it sort of changes the situation. I would say it's feasible now w/ proper planning. I'm over here picturing you in like an 8 x 8 storage shed thinking good luck with that. Make it happen man post pics when it's done.

Wait, I thought heat detecting devices were for spotting HID lights because they're like, fuck, thousands of degrees at the filament...are some of you saying weed plants themselves give off a certain heat? That doesn't make sense to me at all.

they make a product other than mylar you can put up that defeats infared.

there is another kind of scanner called I believe a spectral scan, and that's not foolable, but its mainly only available to military from what I understand AT THIS TIME.

that's not your biggest concern though, like they said. If I were you i'd do my watering and gardening from 11pm-1am, make sure you have one HELL of a filter, and don't tell a single soul. ever.

id suggest reading the FAQ post about security.

    LED Lights

Maybe look into getting some LED grow lights. They are kinda pricey but they put off almost no heat compared to HID fixtures, use less electricity, and put out plenty of light in the right spectrums for your plants to use. I am going to be getting some soon. Where i live it is hot and cooling my room is a pain and can gat expensive. Anyways just a thought, you can google them to find out more.

    Peace and blessings.:GK:
