14 plants from seed. 4 different strains all mixed. I've no idea what anything is. Plus 1 old clone of I don't know. (I had a bit of a security scare and pulled everything and tossed it all into plastic garbage bags where it sat for 4 days before I decided the coast was clear and pulled it all back out again and rescued what I could. Tried to figure what was what, but with the seedlings it was impossible.) For this group, I started with 21 seeds, 100% germ rate, 2 to 1 female to male ratio. The 21 seeds were 5 Plushberry from TGA Subcool Seeds 5 Vanilla Sky (DJ Short's Vanilluna vs Soma G13 haze) by Eskobar at Sannie's Shop, Breeder's Choice 5 Beyond the Brain from Mandala Seeds 6 Shit from Mr. Nice Seeds There is also one old girl in there that was a clone of I'm not sure what, Bubba Kush maybe. They are all in small pots, like 2 gallon maybe, soil and perlite mix with a bit of magnesia lime mixed in, they get a mild fertilizer like every 2 out of 3 waterings. I'm really anxious to flower these girls out and try to see if I can tell which is which. They are 12 days into flower now and I have them in my 4x4/600w tent. I have a heated carpet running opposite to the lights to keep things warm as everything is in an unheated building. My hot carpet temp. control. It says "kills ticks/mites" to the right of the high setting, but I suppose that's only if they are living in the carpet. It runs opposite the light to keep everything toasty warm on the off cycle. And I wanted to try to show one of their stems. I started pinching the stems for the first time this grow after reading about it somewhere and I am loving it. Almost right away I could see a difference. Not just with the stronger, sturdier stems, but the whole plant is more vigorous with a lot of bushy, big-leaf growth. Seems to keep the height down as well, which hasn't really been an issue for me, but it could be for others. Really, it's made such a difference, it's going to be standard practice from here on out. 8 weeksish til harvest. I'll do an update every week or two. Stay tuned. That Plushberry is supposed to be very colorful.
Good luck with it, Hank When you say "heated carpet " are you referring to a heated seedling mat ? Just curious as I could make use of one of those myself BBT
Cheers, BBT. I was actually talking about a heated carpet. Common item here. I use a 3x6 folded in half. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=active&gbv=2&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=%E3%83%9B%E3%83%83%E3%83%88%E3%82%AB%E3%83%BC%E3%83%9A%E3%83%83%E3%83%88&oq=%E3%81%BB%E3%81%A3%E3%81%A8&aq=7r&aqi=g-r9g1&aql=&gs_sm=c&gs_upl=513l15450l3l19711l23l17l3l7l0l1l227l953l0.5.1l7l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&biw=1280&bih=610&ech=1ψ=ubX3Tqb4EM7EmQXArPmVAg.1324856770859.7&emsg=NCSR&noj=1&ei=7bX3To-HM4yhmQX2q-S3Ag
Cheers ya'll. Looking forward to these 4 new ones. I was looking around the shops for a long time and came up with these 4 and Selene from Sannies, which I didn't try to grow out this 1st run. I was looking for fruity and sativa types and came up with those 5, but after not being able to get sleep these days, I think I ought to get a really heavy indica for sleepy time. :bong-2:
They are looking good Hank. The pinching is also known as super cropping. When you damage the stem by pinching it or crushing it the result is stronger stems, new growth shoots and helps to keep the plant shorter. Looks like you have alot of Sativa influence by the look of your plants.
Thanks. Yes, the stems repairing themselves is what limits the apex growth and after they repair themselves (better than they were before) the improved vascular ability to carry water, minerals and nutrients is what makes the rest of the plant healthier with bigger leaves and better branch growth. I also pinch the top shoot on occasion to encourage more branch growth.
Right on Hank lookin good! Looks like they liked the garbage bag...:coolbounce: I just discovered pinching too. I'm actually folding the stems all the way over on the taller shoots to slow them down and give the shorter one's better light and room, and it's amazing. Within 24 hours the stems that I bent over 90 degrees or better are back up straight, and the formerly challenged shorter shoots have climbed up even with everything else. Funny I saw some pics in one of Skunky's old threads of his crop right after he "pinched" his, and it looked like a hurricane had come through and broken every visible stem in half. Took me this long to figure out what he was doin :roffl: He probably even told me what he was doing back then, and I just couldn't get my head around actually "damaging" the plants so much, since I am always attuned to HEALTH, not destruction. But I'll bet there's an experienced supercropper out there who will chime in to tell us to ABUSE the shit outta them bitches and :F-A-Q: I'm tuned in. Been eyeing Shit, but am insomniac and need a knock-out indica that's tasty, too.
Lol. They are all still looking good. Just starting to be able to sort a few into groups. Went in to check on them tonight and found my flower tent 600w hps bulb dead and no back-up. The ballast for the 600 has 50%, 75%, 100% and 'super bright' settings. I turned it on to super bright a couple of days ago and now my bulb is dead. Oops. I had a 400w hps spare, so I turned the 600w ballast down to 50% and put in the 400w spare and it seems to be doing fine. I was thinking that maybe it wasn't enough light, so I put my other 400 MH in the flower tent too, along with the 7 little plants that were in my veg tent. It's pretty crowded now in the 4x4 with two lights and the extra plants. I guess I've learned my lesson about not having spare bulbs on hand. I've no idea where to get them locally and have to order them from the states, so it'll take a couple weeks to get more bulbs.
I tried out super cropping on my first grow however I didn't start pinching until after flowering had just started. That's to say I didn't learn about it until then. It made for one branchy plant full of bud sites. One thing I do now is pin the branch down after pinching to get a little more horizontal growth. Seems to work well. I just started doing this on the Lemmon Thai that I'm also Jogging at the same time. Duc
Well, the tent is a little more crowded than I would like, but there is nothing I can do about that until I get some new bulbs. They are at 4 weeks now. Thought I'd throw up a few pics. Of the 14 unknowns, I have identified 2 Plushberry by purplish leaves at the main shoot. I also have grouped together 2 more into 'A' group by their smell. It's very sweet. They might be Vanilla Sky, or the non-purple Plushberry pheno. Not sure, though. Group shot. Definitely one of the Plushberries. This was one of the really sweet smelling Group 'A'. This one looks to be a good producer. Maybe Shit. Some random ???? shots. I don't know what's what, but that second one (super sat dom) maybe is Beyond the Brain. In case anyone is wondering why the leaves look chewed up on some of them that is from pinching the top growing shoot to slow vertical growth and encourage branching. It screws up one or two sets of leaves a little, but doesn't hurt the overall health of the plant, I think. The 7 little ones that need to be up potted include a couple probable bubba kushes, 3 medicine men, a white widow and who knows. There was a dinafem power kush in there and a chocolate cheese somewhere in there as well. I'm not sure exactly what got saved. The new, small ones run down the center of the group shot, if you look. otleaf3:
