Hello, I've recently purchased a 3x3 tent, a 400W switchable light, inline fan, etc... and have set up a grow in an old empty house owned by and borrowed from a friend of mine. Three weeks ago from yesterday, I started the germination process. One week for that and then two weeks under my flourescent light, and then into the tent. So, I have 11 seedlings. One is a femmd White Domina from I don't remember what seedhouse. It was a freebie from The Attitude. Unsexed, I have 2 Bubblicious and 3 White Widow from Sannie's and 2 Dreamtime and 3 Medicine Man from Mr. Nice. So, there were a couple non-sprouters there. I got 11 out of 13. Here is the room with the closet. The closet was almost exactly the same size as the tent. It's a tight fit. The fan exhausts from the roof of the tent into the roof of the house. There is an air intake in the back of the tent. I had bought a fan, but they were doing some construction on the community center by my house and had gutted it. I salvaged some ducting and two inline fans. Not as strong as the one I bought, but quieter and seems to be good as the temps were just right yesterday. And here are the doors open. I'll get some more pics, of the plants and of my set-up in the next few days. Interesting thing is the house is unheated. So, to keep my temps good, I'm using that fan which is kind of weak, so not too much feezing air gets brought in, and then during the six hours down time I have a heating pad under the plants running on a different timer. Yesterday, I checked the temps 4 hours after they had been up and running and they were like 40 outside the tent and 75 under the lights where the plants were. Stay tuned folks! asssit:
sounds like you have the makings of one hell of a nice crop. you should do well. will you use co2 or uv lighting for flowering?. also any security from neighborhood kids/gangs rummaging around old unlived in houses?
Cool setup, Hank. Is the fact that there is electrical service running to an empty, unused house going to raise any flags anywhere ? bbt:anibong::anibong::anibong:
Alright! Finally Hank, something we can discuss without any argument. The setup looks good. I like the hidden tent, stealth is always good. I'm interested in how your Medicine Man does. I bought beans of that strain recently but haven't sprouted them yet.:good job: I'll be watching. opcorn-2:
I thought that too, but it's his buddie's house, and it's pretty common to leave utilities to an unoccupied house. What about cabins in the woods, or work sheds/buildings? How about a property a person is working on/flipping? As long as he pays his bills, the company won't give a rat's ass about a probably $20 monthly bill.... BTW, nice setup. Keep an eye on your heat, lack thereof can seriously slow down/stunt growth... :thumbs-up: GTWT :XXhippylove:
Inside the closet, above the tent, I've got a couple of these automatic fire entinguishers installed. There was another variety mentioned a few months ago, but they couldn't ship here from the states, because the contents are under pressure, so I found a local variety. Here's a vid. asssit:
how ironic is that! I just saw a video of that fire extinguisher a couple of days ago and I was amazed how well they worked. I assume they cause some sort of chemical reaction to stop the fire? Oh yeah also, nice stealth setup Hank, very sneaky :alienwink:
Very good looking setup you got there Hanky, we really like the safety features of fire extinguishers installed from the start. Thanks for sharing, and we will be following along. Be careful and be safe.
I had a little worry there as we got a shitload of snow dumped on us and I wasn't able to get to my grow for a few days. So, they were a little late getting watered, but were ok. It's also taking a little while to get everything "dialed in" as they say. I don't live at that place, so I can only check and see how things are running every other day. A few times it seemed like things (light, fan, heating pad) should have been on and were off and vice versa. I finally got the heating pad working on the timer, but it seems I should leave it on all the time. I went to check yesterday and the temp in the tent was only like 45 degrees. So, the hot pad is on 24/7 now and I also just unplugged the ventilation fan, because the air it is sucking in is like 30 degrees. They are still small, so lack of co2 shouldn't be too much of a problem at the moment. :nopics: I'll get some new pics up when I can. They are still tiny, but are starting to leaf out. They all look pretty healthy, except for the White Domina, which is looking pretty yellowish. asssit:
It's nice to see how the Credit Default Swaps and CDO's tanking the housing markets in America caused a ripple effect around the world that resulted in a fellow GKer being able to flourish in the trade!:roffl: Good show old boy! Very good! Very industrious! I like it! I'll be watching! And hopefully our "friends" from the Iga Provence will realize that resistence is futile! Good luck and godspeed! +1 rep
Update with a couple pics So, they have been in the tent now two weeks, but it took a week and a half to even get the equip on a schedule I like. I think the light was on continuously the first 10 days. Since I fixed that I think the little babies are much happier because they can get their beauty sleep. I checked today after (4 days ago) a. getting the light on 18-6 b. setting the heat pad on 24 hours and turning off the intake fan and they look a lot healthier and happier. Bubblicious / Dreamtime / Medicine Man / White Widow Bubblicious / Dreamtime / Medicine Man / White Widow White Domina / Medicine Man / White Widow Only the WD is femmed, so I am hoping for a decent percentage of females. That bubblicious looks the strongest so far. Still trying to figure out how often I need to water. After 3 days, they still read way high on the moisture meter. The soil mix is 1/3 peat moss, potting soil I had on hand, and perlite. Next watering I will start giving light feedings, although the soil has some kinda fertilizer in it as well. asssit: Ofo: Thanks for the tip. I will check that out. :thumbs-up:
You are so going to dig indoor gardening Hank. The idea of being so hands on compared to outdoor guerrilla feels great. Nice start. cheers,
Was just wondering if the heating pad is really needed, seems as if they are well on their own, at this point, good start you got going there though.
They are in an unheated house. Last time I checked with the heat pad being off, the temp was down to like 45 degrees. With the current set-up, it seems to get down to like 55 degrees when the light is off and up to 80 when the light is on. But, that 55 is air temp. The heating pad is keeping all the pots/roots really warm. Rez, as far as being hands on, yes, it's more so than before, but I wish I could be more hands on. I don't live there and am trying to keep as low a profile as possible, so that means a mininmum of trips. And, to state the obvious, I don't really know what I'm doing. So, I have to just keep trying things out, etc... etc... and if the plants seem happy. asssit: Advice and comments are always welcome.
I hope yours work better than the one in the video. It shouldn't take that big roaring fire to set it off.
