:5usaribbon: :USA: :usa2: :iwojima: Patriotism never meant a whole lot to me while I was in the Navy. I liked being an American, but I didn't think too much about it other than that. The more countries my service led me to, the more different cultures and societies I was exposed to. As I grow older, the more I am aware of what's going on around me, not only in my own country, but in the world. I am proud to be an American, and I am proud to have served my country. Yeah, our country looks like a shit sandwich sometimes, but if you've never been anywhere else, we're doing pretty damn good. I love my country, and I cheers all my fellow vets out there :beerchug-2: asssit: :urock: GTWT, MM1(SW), 8 years, USN :XXhippylove:
Definitely THANKS to all the Veterans out there who sacrificed a very special part of their lives FOREVER. I too thought little of Patriotism until I saw how the majority of the rest of the world lives and I was shocked and saddened to see how other nations treat their people. I know this country of our isn't perfect, but I think we're VERY fortunate to be here and not somewhere else. Very few places on Earth have the possibilities and opportunities we have here in the USA. Many spoiled brat bitch about this country, but let them see how the rest of mankind functions and I guarantee they'll be happy to be home in America! God bless both, Lt. Tom Costen & Lt. Charlie Turner . . . you guys will NEVER be forgotten! R.I.P. 1-17-1991 :iwojima: AE3 RkyMtnWayHigh69 VA-155 USN 3/88 - 3/92 Operation Desert Shield/Operation Desert Storm USS Ranger CV-61
A friend of mine posted this up elsewhere and he sums it up much better than I ever could. "A Veteran is someone, who at one point in their life, wrote a blank check payable to the United States of America for an amount up to, and including, their life. That is beyond honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer remember that fact. I am honored to have served!" Pop, and everybody else who has served and risked having that check cashed, thank you.
Thats AWESOME Res! How very true it is! They cashed my check, but it was only written out for $4.20. I'll remember that phrase forever Res. Thanks!:iwojima:
I just called my dad who is a retired Marine who served during Vietnam, was shot, and saved his platoon by providing cover fire while injured until the helicopters arrived. He said, "I don't think anyone really cares that much about Veterans day anymore." I am glad I called, and my sis did too, and I encourage everyone to reach out to any Veterans you know because it is way more important to them than any of us think.
Happy Veteran's Day!!!:beerchug-2: I would like to say thank you to each and every one of you who has served our country past or present. I too am proud to be an American! Could not agree more that unless you lived in a country less fortunate you would appreciate the things we do have. Sure we have our flaws, but who doesn't? We are humans who make mistakes but if this country was so crappy, then why do we have so many people sneaking? Called all my relatives today who are vet's and also my son-in-law who is serving now in the Navy. For all the soldiers who have sacrificed their life to keep us safe...I salute you today! Certainly not a job I would have wanted which is why I have much respect for all of you. It is not a 9-5 job with weekends off, those serving go months to years without seeing their loved ones & the pay is not great either. :anibong:
