Welp, I thought I was coming down with a case of the mildews untill I did a little experimenting. I had white blotches showing up on my leaves and soil, more and more each day so I put some tap water on a black garbage bag and when it dried i got a little left over white residue. This bag was in a seperate room. Im pretty sure it hard water. Must be the 10 degree temps outside. I think I will get one of those water filters that attach to the faucet. Think that will take care of it?? How much damage did i do to the plants and roots?

I've read people on here say the "simple," filters, like Brita or whatever, don't do much. If your plants LOOK fine, then all should be well.

You could also perhaps, try setting out a tub of water, for a few days, and then using like just the top half or less? perhaps much of the minerals will drop to the bottom? I'm just thinking it through.

If they look healthy? I'd not get bent on it, but do keep all those solids in mind when you mix stuff up.

Perhaps some people closer to where you are will fine tune this?

Thanks for the quick responde master. You always seem to be on the same time as me. Must be a night owl as well as i. The tub idea sounds like it should work. The plants seem healthy but if the reidue keeps forming it might block from hitting that part. I'll let ya know if the tub thing works if i cant find a better solution.

It's just a thought, I won't swear its the way, but I've heard others on here say the simple filters don't do much.

Sounds like well water? my uncles farm, is hard from white sulpher content, and he pulls it every year for the family garden plot, and all that stuff lives?

Your just going to have to keep it in mind when you mix ferts. Easy does it, and feel it out.

I've been on paid leave since January 11th. My first day back at work is Friday, I drink, and am not a good sleeper, which is why I resemble my Avatar, well, a little. :laughing5: I surf the web, here, and some Pink Floyd sites until I pass out, which will be soon now.

    Good luck with the water.

I use one of those and I think it works quite well.

Works for me. It's probably not as good as a RO filter, but I've been growing some very nice plants using the faucet-attached filters. :)

Well, I will certainly take your word for it, as your doing it, and I've yet to have to.

That would be good news, then. There ya' go. :)

& then check the water ph, and then pick yourself up some of those filters.....Not all minerals in "hard" water are deathbringers, but excessively, they can be:icon_confused: ....:icon_confused: But definitely, some water testing would be the next item on my agenda.... :)

Its funny... I'll drink that water all day, and take 2 showers a day in it but when it comes to my plants it's got to go!!!

If your plants are fine not showing any sickness, I wouldnt worry bout it How old are they?? If they are 7 weeks or more they are fine. Simple Faucet filters are a great help.. If you have well water?? like I do, some of the natural mineralls in well water are good for your plants Like wells drilled through Lime stone have trace amounts of lime,, very good to keep PH neutral.. Also wells drilled through iron have trace amounts of Iron very good for healthy deep green leafs Good Luck with your grow
