Here's what's going on: ends of leaves drooping under, rest of leaf looks ok, continuing to produce more leaves, they sprouted the last few days of Feb/first of march. I transplanted them this last weekend, they were still itty bitty because I didn't have any lights on them. So it could simply be transplant shock. But here's the twist: I over fertilized them - 1 tsp instead of 1/4 tsp peters - on sunday or monday, they don't appear to be draining, and the soil is still really wet on top. Not to mention that their first watering in the new pots was soft water (that dratted accomplice again). Should I re-pot them, adding more vermiculite and some dolomite since I would have the opportunity, and in what proportions? Drill more holes too, maybe? I may be able to hunt up some small rock or definitely some sand, but it would be from outside and should probably be sterilized. The only thing I can flush them with is soft water. Or should I wait it out?
did you put some stones at the bottom of the pots? This helps keep the drainage holes clear. Sory don't know much about soil, just watered and added 'miricle grow'.
Moved to hydro some time ago. The soil was easy for the first 2 grows. The mirical grow was better than nothing, kept them alive!!!!!!!!!
No, no rocks. The only thing close to rocks I have is popcorn. I could put in pine cones, but they're really acidic and may cause problems if the roots reach them. I could gather rocks from outside and sterilize them.
RG. you may be able to purchase some stones, (usually sorted into specific sized bags), from your local hardware or super store etc. Can usually pick up a 10kg bag for under $5 if not your local nursery would have some. It is also easier to start with quality soil with nutrients already added. I get my good soil for around Aus$16/American$8 for a 65litre bag, bulk from the nursery is cheaper again. This way all you have to do is place a sprout in a disposable cup, fill with soil and (only) water for around the first month or two. PS, Mirical grow may not be the best but I have seen 16'-20' plants that have yeilded over 5lbs each on strictly MG for both veg and flower.
Yes, but the question is should I wait and see if it's transplant shock or assume the worst and re-pot? I have good, organic soil and I do not use miracle grow.
First you need to flush your soil to remove all of the fertilizer salt build up. You also need to get at least some floros. How big are the pots? If you have pots that will addiquately support the future root development you need to water with tempid pH adjusted water and Superthrive the next watering after you flush. Or repot to a bigger pot with soil containing the proper organic nutrients. Use Superthrive! Miracle grow lacks micronutrients that Peters contains.
