How do you sleep? I sleep very oddly. I usually can only sleep around 5 hours. I hate "going" to sleep, I find it boring. If i'm exausted sometimes I just fall in bed shoes and all. I sleep in 5 hours or so shifts....but usually I will get in two 5 hour shifts in 32 hours or so. It comes from unusual work scheduals and my disdain for leaving the happiness of the day and making myself sleep.....and then when I get up to go potty or something, I usually am bad and stay up even though i'm still tired just because i'd rather be awake. Of course there are still those days when I sleep 19 hours and enjoy it immensly. My catch-up days.
5 to 7 hours is all I get. I can't sleep any longer then that. Once I wake up, I'm up. If it's early enough, I go fishing. But I can never sleep past 9am. Peace.....
Damn another disorder. lol. I didn't know it was an actual thing... "Shift work sleep disorder (SWSD) is a circadian rhythm sleep disorder which affects people who change their work or sleep schedules frequently or who work longterm on other than day hours. Such recurrent interruption of sleep patterns may result in insomnia and/or excessive sleepiness. A 2007 study lead by the IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer) showed that shiftwork can induce cancer.[1]" I work 2-3 night shifts and 2 days shifts a week. So I guess that qualifies as frequent change! It can be quite a bitch but I get paid extra :angel4: Everything causes cancer these days though, right? :mashed: Knock on wood I guess. I wont be working like this forever. Being alive causes cancer. Growing older is carcinogenic. Joe Jackson.... (uh oh Joe that Piano is gonna cause you cancer! Killer piano in the middle! (gets really great at about 3:50)) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYIUYzbYeKA Everything Everything gives you cancer Everything Everything gives you cancer There's no cure, there's no answer Everything gives you cancer Don't touch that dial Don't try to smile Just take this pill It's in your file Don't work hard Don't play hard Don't plan for the graveyard Remember - Everything Everything gives you cancer Everything Everything gives you cancer There's no cure, there's no answer Everything gives you cancer Don't work by night Don't sleep by day You'll feel all right But you will pay No caffeine No protein No booze or Nicotine Remember - (hope not offending anyone, i don't take it lightly. I have an aunt who was doing good, but just found it travelled to liver and spleen )
My holy book of choice.....would have to be the combined posts of all GK members. HA, try burning that one your most evilness! :angel4:
You missed my bracket too but on the other end:mashed: I sleep 3-4 hrs on average with one good 6-7hr nigh a week. I too work days and nights. Wed night I close and Thursday I open, that's the worst one...but @ least I know exactly what I'm getting into. When I was in my early twenties I went for about a year and half sleeping every other day, it was rough. I really identified with the line in Fight Club, "when you have insomnia, you never sleep, but you're never really awake". Good response on the book burning threat.asssit: Grat
It's on like Donkey Kong....you are lucky you don't have those keys. No excuses! HA! http://www.growkind.com/forum/showpost.php?p=447866&postcount=232
Canna you sound like you have a sleep schedule kinda like my ex-hubby. I swear he would be good with a 30+ hour day, sleeping 6-12 hours in there somewhere. When I left for my last deployment (navy) he was in college, and he had the funkiest schedule. I would catch him awake at 4 in the morning, and he would stay up for an entire day (24hrs). I really think that not everyone is "wired" for a 24 hour day. I would actually be great with an 18 hr day, sleep 4. I've done rotating shift, where you sleep a couple hours at a time, and it sucks balls. you may get 7 hours total in a 24 hour period, but you get so used to only sleeping 2-3 hrs at a time, when you finally get a normal day-night schedule, you can't sleep! I would get in from a deployment and the first few days, I would wake up at 1 AM!!!! argh! GTWT :XXhippylove:
You reminded me of an experiment where they had people in rooms with no contact with the outside world and studied their sleep habits. The people had no idea of the time or when it was day or night. They found a % of people after a month I think it was, settled into 32 hour days. I think I would be among one of those.....
And also intesting were many studies that showed that people who slept 7 hours a day lived longer than those who slept 8 or more. "The best survival rates were found among those who slept 7 hours per night. The study showed that a group sleeping 8 hours were 12 percent more likely to die within the six-year period than those sleeping 7 hours, other factors being equal. Even those with as little as 5 hours sleep lived longer than participants with 8 hours or more per night." So good news for Joe, Chris and Dlr! Talltrees my friend, good luck!
Well damn Canna, I guess I'm toast Speaking of insomnia, last winter was real rough. For four months I worked Friday day and Friday night, Saturday day and night, and then Sunday during the day- that's five full shifts with about two hours of sleep per day. I made tons of money working like 55-60 hours a week, but being a living zombie was not worth it at all. Never doin that again, its just not good for me or my social life
