i am on day 40 of flowering...buds lookin nice....it was from bagseed so i dont know the strain..i have no clue...but anyhow im on day 40 and now all of a sudden i am getting seed development on a few buds on one plant...what gives? is it a hermie? if so what should i do...i thought if they were m they wouldve shown along time ago...there are no males to pollenate so i am vexed here...im a newbie so tks for the feedback...peace
it is probably a hermie.. since you are so far along into flower.. I would leave it man. If that's the only plant you have then just let if flower naturally and keep going.. The plant will still produce plenty of bud. Let it flower until it's ready then harvest the plant as normal.. Potency will be affected but not by that much if it's not HEAVILY seeded. If you got other plants in the room with it they are probably already pollenated too.. So just let em grow man until they are finished
bummer yeah i figured as much...it is definately not heavily seeded though..ive only found about 4 buds that have a single seed...just thought it was really weird this far along...although as i said im a newbie at this so it may be common place....is a seedbank the way to go..or do you run a risk of hermies even with store bought seed? tks again peace
Some genetics have hermie traits. Environmental factors can cause MJ plants to go hermie (or partially-hermie) including: Irregular photo periods Light leaks during the dark cycle Stress on the plant Removing the male flowers will prevent additional pollen spread and may salvage your harvest. Pluck off the hermie seeds so your plants put all their energy into producing female flowers. The better your genetics, the better your chances of having a sensi harvest. I strongly suggest going with high-quality seeds and cloning those genetics.
Some Calyxes swell and look like seed development.. DID the pistil's turn brown and wither while the rest are fresh? If you are looking for male flowers check the dark areas. Even on the stalk.
sINCE you got your seed from a bag, there is always a good possibility that it was a hermie seed to begin with. I have also seen many instances late in flowering where plants will pop out a male flower or two for no obvious reason. I hear people say that hermies and seeded plants are less potent, but I would argue that too a fistfight. Until the lab techs break out the THC measuring devices that argument is an opinion. the difference is minimal if at all....
That's where I found a fuckload of them on my last greenhouse grow....right where you would see the preflowers.
Ya know I'm with the majority the best grow is a seedless grow. The best genetics are females without the hermi trait being expressed. I just like to make the point that Hermi is a trait and that is separate from other traits like flavor and other qualities. I believe it is possible to breed out a trait like hermi and keep something worth while like flavor. That's where I'm at with it. If you have some bud and it hermi's we can do our best to minimize damage but the end result can be useful but prolly not commercial.. My point of view is a seasonal garden and not a perpetual one.
