Impact of Air-Conditioning

I know air-conditioning makes a grow room less humid. My concern, though, is with the quality of the air. Since air-conditioning is not good for a person's health, I wonder how it impacts plants.

Why is air conditioning not good for a persons health?

I've made a 20 year career based primarily around the proper operation of said equipment, so I'm really curious as to why it's now been classified as a health risk.

lol, i have done some refrigerant recovery jobs, and commercial shit working for my dad a while back....

it's a great industry esp. in HOT states....

Yeah, it's great if your the business OWNER, but not if your the poor bastard lugging 500 pounds of recovery equipment up the side of 5 story buildings, or belly crawling in 130 degree attics day after day. I'll never do that shit again.

Of course "never" is a big word.

Now I have seen some residential air conditioning systems that were absolutely disgusting and I was surprised the people living in the house weren't sick, but that's not the air conditioners fault. They were just disgusting pigs.

The only health risk that I'm aware of related to air conditioning systems would be due to the inhalation of airborne mold spores from a moldy duct or evaporator system. This could cause Legionairre’s Disease, which is rare these days. For a short time I worked for a crooked air conditioning company down in Florida that preyed on seniors and would use Legionaires to scare the cash right out of them. It worked!! Come to find out...old people are scared to die.

    who'd a thought it.....

and yeah i dont do attics, and the jobs i was doing we had cranes to set the roof top units....and haul equipment

    but back on topic...LOL

a/c units are as safe as the air we breathe... as long as you vent the EXHAUST air outside....

so you arent heating up the air your trying to cool down.

It's not like I was suggesting that air-conditioning is especially dangerous, but it can and does cause colds and respiratory illnesses. Fresh air is much healthier.

both of those are caused by bacteria, and viruses, last time i checked cold air CAUSES neither.....

Why are so many people being rude in this thread? I don't see why I should be attacked. Totally unecessary.

I live in an area where air-conditioning is used every day, year-round. People that stay in air-conditioned offices or homes get sick all the time. Every educated person I know here is aware that though air-conditioning is not really harmful, it is not nearly as good for you as fresh air. This is pretty commonsensical to me and to just about every person I know here. Hence my totally reasonable question.

    kindbro,

Don't take any of this personal bro. Nobody is attacking you...per se. It's just that if you say something like

some of us may call you out on it, or at least want some clarification of your statement. Threads often spin off on something somebody said totally unrelated to the original question.
Try to picture all of us friends sitting around passing a fatty and having some good stoney conversation. There's alway shit-talking among friends.

No worries brotha, it's all good

I don't think your plants will receive any harm with the A.C. other than temp issues..ie: too cold.

    smoke up people! :animbong:

edit*- I'd like to add that you need to bring in fresh CO2 if you are gonna use an enclosed system. :punk:

I'd say if the air is good enough for me it's good enough for my weed. If your lucky enough to have an air conditioned space to grow then you are way ahead of me. Some days my plants have to deal with a 30 degree swing in temps. I'm sure they'd trade your "dirty" air at controlled room temp for my 'garage' air from 45-85 any day.

Don't feel like anybody's picking on you. But if you were in the A/C business you probably wouldn't appreciate such a sweeping condemnation of your livelyhood you might take exception too. Just remember, everything you read to do with your plants are "guidelines" and are not etched in stone.

If stale indoor air is your only concern then don't hestiate to grow in it. If you have enough people living inside your home then chances are there is a higher concentration of CO2 than outdoor air and from that standpoint it is actually better air for your plant. Don't listen to the liberal media too much. If we live is such a hazardous modern world then why are people living so much longer than the "good old days"?

Personally agree, however, think they misunderstood what you were getting at.....I agree that air conditioning systems do provide a good place for mold and nastiness to live....The high school I went to had a MAJOR mold problem in the vents that they linked to some health issues of the students....I doubt your home system would be this bad, but if you are worried about it get a good hepa filter and change it often. good luck! :smoke2:
