Plant a seed ina beer can cut in half with holes in it? I ask becouse i ran outta lil pots to put her in and all i could find was beer cans ,But now that i think of it i have never seen a plant in anykind of metal pot. Have i doomed the lil guy to certain death?
well, since no one else is rep ill give it a shot, haha. to be honest i dont know for sure, however i remember vaugely reading somewhere in the faqs here or somewhere else that its not a good idea. if i were you i would transfer it outta there just becuase the idea of metal scares me (throw it in a 8oz dixie cup or something). ha! found it... it was in randy's organic soil growin 101 faq.
yeah....you would have been much better to put it in a styrofoam cup as stated above, aluminum is bad....I would worry about it reacting with chems in your soil
Ive done it for seedlings cut it off right at the top and popped some holes in the bottom with a pen. It didnt do anything bad to the plants that I noticed but its a little bit of a pain in the ass to transplant with the metal
that settles it ...seedling transplant time peat pot it is (had time to get to the garden center today )
You can also make soil blocks... Think of a squareish tupperware type.. Pack with a moist soil mix pack down the soil in the mold and then turn and wiggle the soil block out. Man I need to add Soil Blocks to the organic FAQ.. Later you can just plant the block into something larger. THere is a FAQ entry in the Orhganic FAQ on soils and containers. An no aluminum it's in the FAQ as well...
