Anyone have suggestions for keeping leaf eating bugs off my plants? I know we have a lot of grasshoppers and crickets around here and there's these weird little red beetles. I was going to dust them with sevin dust since harvest is so far off, but if there's a safer alternative I'm all over it.
For beetles, I'd think a beetle trap, like those for japenese beeltles around here. I don't know if they'd work for GRASShoppers and crickets, but for mosquitoes, gnats, etc. a bathouse clears them out. On second thought... a bathouse is prob only effective on f insects. I'm HIGH asssit:
Ed Rosenthal's Zero Tolerance I use it outdoors and indoors for a variety of pests and it's made of 100% food grade organic oils. Non Toxic and effective. Re-apply once a week to repel pests continually.
Out doors its no big deal if a couple bugs take a bite or two. Too much of hassle for a couple of bugs and risky if putting posion powder on your plants. I never worried about a few bites from a leaf.
I'm trying this. Capture a spider who is great at hunting (i.e. Wolf Spider) and place him or her around your plant, placing a few sticks around it makes it attractive to the spider in terms of building a web off the plant to the sticks. It does not harm the plant and acts like a guardian, but you have to watch out for spider eggs. If you aren't into that you could try laddy bugs, they love to eat aphids, other bugs though not sure which is why Spider is good, they hunt plus they will build a web around the plant and you can sorta control it by where you place sticks and such.
