day 4 now of drying. they just smell like dead grass, and when i say grass, i mean the stuff you grown in your lawn. The buds smelled strong when they were growing on my plant though. Will this change, hopefully? [IMG]

if you dry and cure properly the bud will put off several different aromas at different stages of the process. what you don't want is a smell of amonia.

What's the smell of ammonia similar to? Dude how high are you? Holy crap, go to WalMart buy some ammonia and take you a good whiff you'll never ask that question again.

No, that is not the kind of ammonia smell you are looking for. That ammonia smells good. The ammonia smell you are looking for smells like "mold!" If you have mold in your jars you will know. Have you ever smelt a small chicken coop with a bunch of shavings and the chickens have been pissing on those same shavings for months? That is what ammonia smells like. The chemical cleaner ammonia, smells good and will not make you gag. Also, your buds won't smell like good weed until you have let them cure for at least a month. Until then they will smell like fresh cut grass.(most of the time.)

Hey all!!  Ok - I harvested my plant and apparently have screwed things up from that point on LOL...I dried them on a baking sheet in the attic of my garage (right beside the opening to the attic).  I let them dry for 5-7 days and then put them in a tupperware container to cure.  The first bud I pulled off to dry (about a week before I harvested the plant) tasted good, gave a really good buzz, and now they taste "piney".  Will this go away after curing, or did I ruin them by drying them too fast in the garage?

I've smoked for years, but this is the first time I have ever been able to grow anything and it tastes nothing like what I'm used to!!!  Any ideas...thoughts?

    Thanks all!!!

If you do go to Walmart and buy the ammonia...

Do not, I repeat do not just open the bottle and take a big whiff.. You'll be sorry. Just open it and wave your hand over the open bottle to force some vapors towards your face.

    Peace.

I'm going through the same thing right now again, this time with SK1. I've had a pure Afgan grow, and it smelled this way and never changed back. It's like a sweet-stale smell. I was thinking of not putting in jars at all because last time, with the Afgan, when I jarred it the smell stayed - like grass. Current SK1 looks all crystaline and good but that stale smell is there. I'm on 4th day hanging upside down in dark bathroom with vent. fan on 24/7 - so somewhat ventalated. Can anyone comment with knowledge?

My bud always smells DANKY and real strong, try this next time harvest your buds, trim them and put directly into papper bags and put them in a dark cool place for the drying process, opening them once a day and fluffing the bag aroung cause they will be trying to stick together, then once they are dry put in jars, always works for me>>>.
