my very first grow room

hello all here is the work ive done so far on my first ever grow room. its a closet that im dividing into to seperate sections. the veg room on the left, and flower room on the right. here is what it looks like from the front with the bi-fold doors open...



here is the mom/veg room. its 2'W x 3'L x 7'T. im going to remove the modular unit thats shown. just use the piece closest as a wall, then build the shelf across the whole space but leaving a small space for air flow. the shelf will be 4' above the floor for the moms with a 2ft x 6 bulb T5 lighting that sapce. the shelf will be used for clones, seedlings, and vegging and will be 3' tall also lit by a 2' x 6 bulb T5. i will venting from the top then using a small axial fan to move air from veg room to flower room. a small run of duct between the two spaces will allow that.



here is the flower room which is 2'W x 4'L x 7'H. there is currently a 6 inch gap in the ceiling which i plan to use for ventilation either intake or exhaust. the opening in front is going to be closed up with extra thick panda which im going to install a tent zipper for access.



here is the top of the flower room which u can see the 6inch gap in the back. there is also about 16 inches of dead space above both sections of the room. which i plan to use for fresh air intake and if i need one, put my carbon scrubber up there



this is the back wall of the flower room and as you can see there are 2 drains i can access.one is my bathroom sink(right) and one is the toilet(left). i was wondering if i could vent skunky air through the drain? anyone have any ideas on that? i was thinking of putting a 6 inch inline 250 cfm booster fan pulling air through my 400W HPS cool tube and out the drain for odor control. id leave one end of the cool tube open to draw the room air out. as mentioned earlier ill be bringing fresh air from the veg room into the flower room.



so here is just a view of the dead space above both rooms which will allow plenty of air for ventilation. the space between the to rooma will serve well as shelving for my ballast, nutes, meters, and the like. also make a good place to have my thermostats positioned...



i will be sealing all seems with either heavy duty duct tape or expanding foam to make sure the flower room is completely light tight. then im going to wrap the entire insides of both rooms in either mylar, panda, that new stuff orca, or that diamondplate like mylar stuff. i guess budget will be deciding factor. when the bi fold doors are closed looks like a regular closet.

i welcome and encourage any and all input, suggestions, or comments as this is my very first attempt at this. again very interested in thoughts about venting to the drains.

When venting into your drainage system remeber to run the fans 24/7. You dont want noxious fumes coming back up during lights out!!!!

hey RR thanks for the encouragement. its turning out so much better than i expected. i had soooo many ideas as to lay out and all went to hell once i cleared out the closet and saw what i had. more room than i thought yayfor me. as for light leaks im pretty stoked as i closed myself in the flower room and shut the bi fold doors it was almost pitch black. i am actually going to duct tape all seems an corners, then use expnding foam for a few places with bigger gaps. then on top of all that im going to wrap the entire room with mylar or something. so my flower room should be pretty well light tight. i dont think the veg room is as important for light leaks is it?


so Mr Greenjeans do you like the cool tube reflector? i just bought a 6" cool tube with external reflectors, a 400W HPS bulb a cord and socket, a digital ballast, a timer, and a pair of yoyo hangers on ebay for $165.00 so thats on its way yay!!!!


thanks Dix no need to envy the skills lol basically the walls are salvaged california closet pieces and the trim from around the inside of the closet lol no need for that pretty trim in a grow closet lol. remember it isnt how nice ur grow space is.... its what u do with it that matters. lol im so new im hoping just to see something pop out lol


now for the next piece of the puzzle... i just ordered my very first seeds... i wanted Mr Nice Black Widow buttttt sold out rather quickly after only a couple of days... so lucky for me attitude had a very limited release of Reserva Privada O.G. Kush feminized. i think i should be excited as that strain is always sold out. WOW!!! i cant believe it, now to choose a nutes program, and buy fans and ducting and tape and expanding foam and mylar lol

ok all update for ya... the room is getting close to done... i know im slow but doing this on a limited budget so doing a little a a time. i filled gaps with expanding foam and sealed all joionts with foil tape. i dont know if i mentioned my 400W HPS on the way for the flower room. i just found some blinds i had purchased at ikea awhile back and seeing im not using them i returned to ikea and used the credit to buy a couple of CFL fixtures and bulbs for the cloning/seedling/early veg area. each fixture puts out 2000 lumens. so for now its 4000 lumens for my seedlings to start. i will add a third one giving me a total of 6000 lumens for that. anywaysjust an update as its been a few since i posted here. i will put up picks once its complete.

veg lights from ikea lol


here are the lights i got from ikea for the store credit. so basically free. i will mount them on a piece of wood i will then use eye bolts on the back of the wood and eye bolts in the ceiling and chain so i can move the cfls up and down as the babies grow

heres more progress on the closet...


first up is the veg space as it have totally re did what it was in the previous pics. the clone/seedling/early veg section is the shelf. its aprox 3' from shelf to ceiling. the bottom is 4' tall for the moms when i have some.

as you can see above i had fun with expanding foam. went crazy filling every seam and corner with the stuff. making sure it is light tight. a better shot of the flower room all foamed up lol...





now heres the way i decided to mount the CFLs i got from ikea. a very simple way of mounting the lights...

looking up... i think all of my little will be happy under this light...





looking down... i am going to scre eye bolts into the 1x2's and also in the ceiling of the room and suspend the light with chain to allow for easy height adjustment... fits nice huh???





thats it for now... my HPS is supposed to be here by friday... will purchase duct work and fans next week... then its grow time....

It's looking really good. Isn't it exciting watching all the hard work come together? I know I loved building both of my simple rooms and I' really looking forward to building a larger commercial setup. Keep up the hard work and you'll be harvesting your own homegrown dank in no time!:good job:

 

hey Ras and RR thanks so much for the kudos... you guys have been so instrumental in my progress. both of you have contributed so much advice that i fee confident i will have dank buds. i want to do you guys proud and show you your help wasnt wasted. check out these 2 mid grade seeds found in a bag. i decided to see if i could germ them. just put them between a few layers of moist paper towel, in a baggie then into a cabinet. by the 3rd day one had a 2 inch tap root and a leaf the other was over an long and the first leaf was just popping. i planted them in some miracle grow potting soil yesterday just to see and they both r peaking over the top of the pot in one day.








hope the good seeds perform as well

Man if you want to vent into the sewer drain than just add a 90 degree elbow and run the tube a good 5 to 6 feet up and than just attach duct work to it. Install a threaded end at the top so you can cap it off if needed. I never have a problem with smell at all. :bong-2:
