ive grown a few times before, nothing serious, but usually when i try i get pretty healthy fast growing plants right from the start. i also usually germinate my seeds. this time i decided to grow right into the medium (dirt). after a while a seedling finally broke through but it looked very small and the seedpod was stuck on it, the cfl im using also kindof squished it a little bit, but after fixing that it looks fine... i think. so yesterday i carefully took off the seed shell to help the plant along and inside is just a ball of yellowish stuff kindof looking like the cotyledon. i let it sit over night with the light on, but when i check on this morning it still looks the same. a very very thin stem, bent over at the top with a ball of stuff at the end. the stem itself looks healthy from what i can tell, it is pink and whitish but it is really thin... thinner than when i germinate and it breaks out of the seed. so my question is, could the cfl sitting on it for a while have fried the plant? because it still looks alive. and from what i said do you guys think the plant is worth keeping? btw its a white widow feminized, i dont really mind using another seed (3 left) as much as im worried about time because im planning on cloning on all future grows. so yeah. any advice is appreciated! thanks.
You should be able to see noticable growth daily. If it's been days with nothing, then I'd get the other 3 germinating. I would germ all 3. The odds of getting a female out of the original 4 are 50/50. If you veg and then flower them one at a time until you get a female, you could potentially waste a lot of time. Germinate the rest of them. Odds are if they all live, you'll end up with 2 females you can clone from and then flower.
i have feminized seeds... and are u sure i shud kill it :/ it its stems are whitish pinkish like it still has life in it
also, if i decide to germ new seeds. whats the quickest most reliable method? should i just do the paper towel thing
hey sour, if i were you like joe said i'd get the rest of them germinationg just encase. but whats stopping you from letting the other guy keep growing while the other seeds are germing, you never know it might spring back. i've had seedlings bounce back from abuse. Next time i'd let the cotyledons spring out and shake the seed on there own, unless they just cant do it. By removing the seed case on your own you can easily damage the little guy and stress it out enough to stop growing. in my opinion keep it going and see if it pulls through, cfl's cost basically nothing to run so why not. I'd get the other seeds planted just encase the little guy doesnt pull through. p.s. germ in paper towl or the shot glass method instead of dropping straight into soil. cheers!! good luck
"feminized" WW Joe. :roffl: If it was touching your light for more than a minute or two it's cooked. Seedlings have NO resiliency so it doesn't take much. But I'm with Joe on popping all three. You make mistakes, a seed doesn't germinate...shit happens... and to pop one at a time until you get it right takes to much freakin' time. Worst that happens is you get 3 plants that go to harvest and you can pick the best for your mum. cheers,
It's up to you. You know what you want and need. From what you said about that light on that fragile start, It's probably gone. Starting at least 1 more bean would be a good idea. 2 beans and you'll have a mom. Fem seeds should be all female. peace. G_B
I've had no problem planting straight in the soil. Any where from 2-10 days before they come up. And leave the seed casing on. It will fall off all on it's own. Sooner or later. Leave a couple of inches of room with the light. Your plant will be growing at all times. You will see it spring up an inch or 2 every day, then bam. It's big. Watch your light and keep adjusting it. Not too high (to much stretch), not too low (burn). And how many you grow at a time is up to your needs and space. Even 1 fem wouldn't be enough for me. To make it worth my while and expense, I like at least 4 females (with reg seeds that what I aim for) but would prefer 6-8.
here's no need to kill it. It isnt like it's taking up too much room or needs too much. Just leave it the hell alone--and LET it heal itself. Start the other seeds, too, but let the one have a chance. I started four seeds, last grow, and three took off but one just sat there for a week or more, thin, spindly, two tiny leaves. But after a while it started to grow and evenbtually caught up with the others. If it aint dead it WILL grow. Be patient. Dixie
