ok so i have a closet that we (my spouse and i) are wanting to set up and a plan and i wanted some input because i haven't been on in a wile and what we are going to do seems too easy. . . . i have a 400 watt light that will be air cooled with ducting into an air conditioned bathroom. it will also be hung by chains from hooks screwed into studs in the ceiling so adjusting the eight is easy. i just bought a carbon filter and a fan and the guy at the store told me not to exhaust the air and just scrub it since the light will be cooled. is this a good idea? if i do this i am going to have to use a co2 system right? has anyone used the co2 buckets? are they any good? also i have a problem with how i am going to seal the closet door and not let any light leaks in. would a passive intake under the bottom of the closet door work to help my co2 problem and sealing the bottom of the door. i guess i just weatherstrip the heck out out the top and sides of the door. have lots of equipment but not sure on an exact plan? any help greatly appreciated thanks silent spectator
i hate clerks. if u duct ur light to a bathroom expect that room to get hot. better off venting from outside. seperate from the room ventilation which can be done to the insidewith a carbon filter for the odor. even if ur light is air cooled theres a shit ton of heat radiated through the glass. you need to have powered ventilation. passive ventilation doesnt work unless theres a space for theair to exit at the top, and enough heat added to create the draft. run a search on here for "ventilation" or aircooled hood" i know nothing bout co2 buckets. more questions i live in a mobile home, would it be better to vent the light in from under the trailer where the air is cooler and then out back under the trailer to help with the light or would it be ok to vent into the bathroom if it is air conditioned? i did buy a fan to attach to the light to draw the cooler air in through the light tube. my biggest concern is do i have to have some sort of outside air being drawn into the room or can i just scrub the air in the room with a carbon filter and have fans for circulation. but if i do this i must have co2 right? i have been researching for a couple of years but everyone has a different answer. i want to get set up but i want to have a good outcome and few problems so i want to make sure i do it the best way possible. i appreciate all your help! ss
questions this is so hard to get set up the right way. i'm a hands on learner and i have to see how to put things together and how they work and there really isn't a big market for showing people one on one how to set their grow room up to their maximum potential. pictures are nice and all but i have to have the real deal hands on . . . ss
Hey man, just a thought about your ventilation questions. If you use the air from under your trailer for an intake, you might run into the problem of never having steady temperatures. You know, the temps outside change, so it would be pretty hard to control the temperatures in the grow room. I think a better solution would be to intake the air from your room (assuming it stays cool enough) or the air-conditioned bathroom. Exhaust under your mobile, you'll have to get a scrubber though, to make sure that the neighbors don't get a whiff of the smelly smell of something that smells smelly I think it would be pretty much necessary to have an intake, although I have no experience using CO2 setups.
As someone else posted, you'll want to intake from your home and exhaust to outside. Trust me, it may seem like you are just blowing AC out but with a 400w in a closet you will be blowing out nothing but heat. It's okay if you are exausting below because your going to need to use an active exhaust fan anyway, you are probably okay on intake since your exhaust will be pulling in air. I would use ducting to exhaust air from the top of the closet (like right above the light) all the way to the side of the trailer, that way the heat doesn't rise back up through the aluminum into your home. A big part of the idea is that your AC won't be dealing with the heat. As long as you have an exhaust that completely exhausts the closet every 5 min you don't have to add c02 but doing so will give you bigger better flowers. I have tried some of the cheap DIY methods and they don't produce much c02 and cost a lot of maintain, its a bit pricier on the setup but I'd suggest using c02 tanks. You'll pay $100 for a tank and another $160ish for a regulator setup but a tank will last you through a a grow or more and refills will be about $20.
It's probably obvious what I meant but I'll clarify anyway. The actual tank more or less lasts forever, a tank full of co2 lasts through a grow. Buy local if you can from a welding or gas supply, if you have to mail order you'll have to go to one of these places to fill the tank anyway.
if i werre you i'd take a 4 or 5" from the crawl space to the light to the outside with a fan somewhere inbetween that rins any time the light is on. then i'd take a 4" duct from the top of the growspace through a carbon filter to the outside with airt intake in the floor\and a fan in between of course...on the exhaust between the filter and outside. operate the filtered fan on a thermostat. line voltage available at home depot...need the cooling model. try bto get 125 cfm through the fixture read following post.\ http://www.growkind.com/forum/showthread.php?t=381 Happy Growin'
GreenGoblin's info sounds good. If you are adding c02 be sure to turn off those fans when it is running though or it'll exhaust your c02!
