Alright, so ytd I went ahead and watered the plants with 1/4 fertlizer and ph balanced water (6.7). The soil was originally 6.2 but up until this weekend (3 weeks old) I had never adjusted the waters ph lvls(which untreated are around 7.2 - 7.4) so I'm guessing this increased the ph lvls on the soil..anywayz, today I checked on my plants and 2 of them are rly fucked up, the other 2 don't look that bad but they do show some bad signs on their leaves. I'm guessing this happened due to the soil ph being off and thus converting the nutes into toxic salts which are harming the plants. I'll post some pics and hopefully u guys will be able to either confirm my diagnosis or tell me whats rly going on. Soil mix = 40% soil 15% organic compost 45% perlite. 400w mercury. problem Looks like ph problems to me. I would flush the hell out of them and adjust your ph. check the runoff for ph also. good luck teamster6
plants Well your ph was high from what you said and yes it would change the soil ph and be toxic. Proper soil I believe is 6.5 Running the ph factor high will screw up the nutrient uptake of the plants and def will start to show. You will probably be fine flushing and readjusting ph that is what I would do. teamster6
Ph being to high or to low will NOT change the ferts to toxic salts. It simply impedes uptake of elements. The ferts are still there in usable form, its just that the plant can't fully metabolize them. Target PH for soil is 6.8 hope it helps,
Oh, whats causing it then? Can the problem still be the nutes even tho I only used 1/4th of what it said? What do u think is going on?
ph What res is trying to tell you is its not your nutes. Does not matter if you are useing 1/4 strength. It is the ph factor that is causing a lockout and making your plants show a def. Here is a chart. It shows optimum ph soil 6.5 but gives the entire range and kind of shows you the nutrient levels used at the various ph. teamster6
Yeah I get it but if that were the case wouldn't the plants show deficiencies beforehand? I mean, the plants didn't act up until right after I fed them.
Looks to be a Phosphorus deficiency most likely caused by nute lock from too high of water ph. My guess is that your water ph is trending closer to 7.5 which will retard Phos uptake. Phos is best absorbed from 6.0-6.8 ph. Get the ph correct, do another feeding and see what happens. cheers,
