hey ppl ive been growing 4 northern lights x shiva for 3 weeks now. i started in 4 inch pots then transplanted after 2 wks to 7 inch. are the pots ok to finish in? i can already see roots in bottom of pots cheers
Ther is some debate on this. So the honest answer is "It depends on the style of growing you are doing and the enviroment you grow in." But three gallon and five gallon are popular sized pots. I am a fan of root room.
Gotta agree w/ Randy here, Better to have too much room than not enough, we dont know how tall ur plants are either. I'll pass the same reccomendation that worked best for me... 3 gallon grow bags.. they're easy to use, move, adjust , squeeze in some instances, reusable, and EXTREMELY CHEAP. Since ur still feelin ur way around a bit, make sure you check how many roots you have after your harvest to see how much room you were actually taking up in there. Good luck, peace ~Wizzle
If you have only been growing them for 3 weeks and you already see the roots in the bottom then yes, you definately need bigger pots.
thanks for the input ppl much appreciated. my plants are about 7 inch tall with 6 nodes now at 3 wks under 125w enviro cfl. im gonna flower under 250hps. so what is 3 gallon in inch pot size? sorry im crap at measurements cheers
not 100% sure but... 3 gal. should be 10 or 12 in. in my exp the pots listed in inches only are usually the ones intended for house plants (@ Lowe's near me that's all they stock), they are usually some color, like the terracotta brown, or dark green, nothing wrong with them,... if you go to a real garden store or nursery you should be able to find pots that are more for green house, outdoor, landscapers etc. They will most likely be black and have drainage holes that go up the side a half inch or so and IMO are better suited to our purposes. They are often less expensive because they aren't pretty and are intended for ppl who would have to buy quantity. I have 2 gal pots because I don't have space for the plants to get bigger. I'd have loved to have used 3gal or bigger but I'd need to loose at least one plant to make that feasible in my space. Rule of Thumb = 1 gal of root space for every foot of plant height. Also, the more root bound they become the more frequently you will need to water. BTW, you can use anything that has sufficient capacity and good drainage (drainage is crucial to prevent root rot). I've read many a post (although maybe not on this forum) where ppl are recommending dollar store trash cans, lots of ppl recommend square pots cause you can get more in a small space. I read one where a guy was talking about how many 2liter bottles he could fit in a kitty littler box, clearly it for a SOG and probably worked great for him but still funny. best of luck!
thanks man my space is 23inch x 19 inch with 4 plants.im worried ill get out space aswell? ill just get 9 inch pots cheers
