Hey there, I was looking around at landscaping techniques on the net, found a page and got an idea. I'd first like to say; I don't know if this would work, it's my guess that its possible - that's why I started this thread. The page I found showed large and hollow fake rocks, which can be made with chicken wire, burlap, and cement. I started thinking, hey, what a great hiding place for a grow. Now I say again - I don't know if this will work, but I've been looking into it. - ~ If you want to check out what I'm talking about go to google and search "fake rock" ~ - these things can be made cheap and can be made to look pretty damned real. And the best thing, if it is indeed possible, is that people would just think it to be part of your landscaping. the main concern I have is transfering air in and out... my idea is to tunnel the intake and exaust underground - the exaust away from the area were the mock-rock would set, for obvious reasons. but I'm still wondering if that would be enough to keep the plants cool. I live in woods so there's no worry of sun hitting the top and building up heat on the inside. i dunno, maybe this is nothing but Any input/ideas for how this might be achieved would be greatly appreciated - cause I'm realy not sure that there is enough space in my new place for a growroom. (sorry if I posted this in the wrong place) ~thanks
So hilarious in fact, that no one will respond to your stupid question! -GC QUOTE Quote: from theEyeballKid on 1:18 pm on Aug. 23, 2005 man, that was hilarious. ~ "save the whales,, shoot the seals" ~ (Edited by greenconan at 6:35 pm on Aug. 23, 2005)
No reason you should have that attitude.. As i said, "I don't know if this would work, it's my guess that its possible - that's why I started this thread." Are you having problems going along with the context of this thread Conan? If you can find a question in my first post in this thread. show me. ALSO - "Save the whales... shoot the seals" is a quote from a song Cheech sang in the beginning of -Nice Dreams-, the movie in which they were supplied by the guy who grew inside a swimming pool covered with a blue tarp. I started this thread, hoping for input. If any member of GK thinks this is stupid - I certainly dont want them to waist their time posting,,,, especialy if all their going to post is condescending remarks. Just build a greenhouse and it doesn,t have to look like a rock at all and you plants will love you for it...This thread is Advanced Cultivation, you may what to try The Beginner Forum to get Input on cool Ideas. (Peace And Good Growing)
Thanks Outlaw, A greenhouse was my first intention.. But it would cost about three times as much - and sence this is primarily for winter growing (next year I'll be growing outdoors), it would cost a lot more to heat a greanhouse - and I'm almost certain someone (nosey hunters) would find out what would be inside I've done a bit more planning - and now I think what I'll do is build regular growbox. and the mock-rock would be for hiding the growbox - and for insulation. ---------- I'll leave it at that, being that this might be the wrong place for this post. If anyone wants to talk about it - just drop me a message. ---------- ~THANKS
there are two ways to go about that,, - the mock-rock doesnt weigh very much, and could be lifted and propped up. - the mock-rock could be formed slanted and in two pieces, the 1st piece would stay stationary and contain the growbox, while the 2nd piece would act as a door and set atop the other at an angle. like this > (2nd// 1st ) I'm gonna try to make it look as much like the large rocks in the wilderness around here, as possible. and some of them are slanted the same way. I'll post pics of the plans as soon as I'm finished with the details. ~THANKS (Edited by theEyeballKid at 2:02 pm on Aug. 25, 2005)
Weather this idea would work or not remains to be seen, but I suppose if there a will there's a way, regardless if you happen to entertain this idea, you have to post pics of it. If nothing else, it would make some funny ass pics.
What would you neighbors think of huge rocks in your yard overnight? Do you live where there is snow? Wind? 5150
no neighbors close enough to see the rocks,, its in the woods. we have wind and snow sometimes - but not bad enough to cause any damage. it'll be next year before i start working on it,, i'll be sure to post pics wheather it works or not. thanks, T.H.C.
well, its waterproof, so its just going to run off into the ground.. the growbox will be elevated on a foundation that the rock would fit down on, and connect to. basicaly,, what i plan to do is make a growbox that will be setting on foundation, the intake and exaust will be tunneled. the rock is just for protecting and hiding whats under it.
EBK, I LOVE Innovation. A Greenhouse is always optimal but you're obviously trying to hide things a bit. I know how these Mock Rox are made, saw it on TV and recorded it too. It's not just cement but they actually use perilite and bagged soil to help make things a bit lighter. I'd be concerned about any Cement dripping, even micro flakes myself if you are intending to use it as a dome. As to heat removal in remote locations JC Whitney sells a bunch of SOLAR POWERED stuff for RVs and although JC Whitney may be expensive just looking at all the appliances you can run off the sun while learning about inversion/conversion can lead you to local and/or more cost effective suppliers. And EBK, some are most certainly strong enough to run Air Conditioners as well as your fans & Killer Tunes too! Hope This Helped!
You got a foot of snow on the ground everywhere but your heat rock. 5150 (Edited by georged5150 at 4:33 am on Sep. 14, 2005)
ok i thought i had this explained pretty well. the growbox will be inside the rock. so the "heat rock" as you call it, will have 10-20 inches away from the grow box, which will be what contains the heat and needs ventalation. so if any place would melt it will be place were the air comes out. (20ft over a hill) so actualy.. there would be a foot of snow on top of my rock. ~keep in mind that the last time we had a foot of snow was in 1994~ MrMoM > i'm pretty sure mine will be made from just cement. the more i think about making it less heavy, the more i worry about someone coming along and pecking on it > unless the outer shell is realy dense you can tell that its hollow. i've progressed with this idea from what i first started out with.. and i'm pretty sure its going to be "well built" by the time i am finished > putting a lot of time into making sure that it won't be noticed (as being used for growing cannabis) and that the plants will be very safe and secure on the inside of the growbox (which will be inside the mock-rock) i'll post a pic or two to give you an example of the idea. thank you all very much for the replies and comments. domi arigato, T.H.C.
