You guys hear about the FBI investigating them for human trafficking? Way fucked up... Some of the worlds richest people are scientologists, BTW. Sick fucks. I'm not ignorant enough to group them all...but I always thought it sounded sketch.
I live near a huge Scientologist compound and they are some weird peeps. I can't say that I know too much about them other than rumors. Lots of celebs belong to their church but of course they aren't held to the same standard as the common person that joins the cult-like church. The few times I interacted with some lower level members of their group they didn't seem like very happy people, and one guy was a straight up loony tune. I worked construction with a guy and he told me he wrote a book and he gave me a copy (self published at kinko's!! ) short stories. I read the first one and it was creepy, especially if you knew this guy and was soo convinced (along with other weirdness that his guy exuded) that this guy was a closet child molester or at least got jollies on weird child stuff that I quit working with him. Told my boss I was done with him, just too weird to work with.
Its a fucked up religion. Like a pyramid scheme. The more you pay the higher your rank in the "church". I think Tom Cruise holds the highest rank second to L. Ron Hubbard himself. People are whack jobs. :bduh:
Geez, don't you know anything? People don't really count as people unless they meet a minimum Thetan level. So no problem here. I really think you should get your levels audited. I can arrange it for the low, low price of $500. You just put this plug in your nose, and this one up your ass... :alienwink:
Long story to describe the oddness (I am beating AP): I am very interested in religions (though not religious myself), and I have a set of Scientology books that the "church" uses and are VERY HARD TO GET if you are an outsider. I've only scanned the first one so far, though I know a fair amount about them already, but it reads like fiction, which it obviously would. The Scientology offices in DC were having an open house while we were there a couple years ago to see the Colbert painting. My wife and I debated it, but we decided to go in. The building was on the corner of one of those crazy ass five way intersections DC has. It was, like most downtown places in DC, old and had finished wood paneling as well as wood floors. We walked into the main hallway and saw wooden stairs directly in front of us. The doorway at the top of the stairs was about twice the size of a normal one. People, obviously workers/worshipers there, were walking back and forth at the top of the stairs, in short intervals. From where we were standing all we could see was a male in neutral, dress-casual clothes come from the left, and then disappear to the right. Then, a woman would come from the right in neutral, dress-casual clothes and disappear to the left. This continued. Besides the clothes, there was one thing they all had in common: their eyes. As they walked from right to left and left to right only to disappear, they would turn and look directly at us with wide open eyes. It wasn't just the fact that they all were doing this, it was the look behind those eyes, blank and soulless, cold and bright, combined with a generic smile similar to when you are extremely stoned that freaked me out. They also seemed to all have perfect posture. Then a lady, probably in her forties, with a generic haircut in dress-casual clothes and those same strange eyes (though more seemingly awake) along with the odd smile appeared at the top of stairs, almost directly in the middle of the doorway. We walked up to her. I don't remember the exact words any of us said that day, but she basically asked at this point, "Can I help you?" I explained I was a student of all religions and wanted to experience a different one. She led us to the right and into a library which was all wood like the rest of the buildings. It was only the three of us, this lady standing with her perfect posture, myself, and my wife. She showed a few books and told us a bit about Hubarred and then asked us what we wanted to know. The conversation went pleasantly between myself and this lady about my beliefs and theirs, what I knew about their "religion" and others, and a few other side notes. Then she asked us about our personalities. We told her we were not going to tell her personal information. She changed the subject for a few minutes and then steered it back by trying to guess my personality. I told her I wasn't going to talk about personal details. She then asked us if we wanted to take a personality test. Of course we declined, but she continued to press us. At this point we politely excused ourselves and walk very swiftly out the damn door. Fucking cult/pyramid scheme made up by a science fiction writer.
yes and yes ofo....he also believed that 75 million years ago an intergalatic ruler named Xenu brought humans to earth and blew us up with hydrogen bombs. causing our souls "thetans" to bind to living organisms here.. Some people believe that a zombie jew gave us a free ticket to paradise just for being his homie... It's all the same crazy shit
Don't you remember the Dianetics commercials for his books during the '80's?? I remember seeing those commercials all the time when I was a kid.
Creation. Evolution. Scientology. I'm not sure any of these accounts is any more reasonable or far-out than any of the others.
Hubbard was a science fiction writer who started the religion. Whether he believed what he wrote in reference to Scientology I don't know, but I doubt it. Creationism is a belief by religious groups that is based on ancient texts. Scientology is based on a fiction writer's books from the last 50 years. Evolution is a theory based on evidence, observations, and research verification. I have I feeling I know which one, if I were not a skeptic, I would choose logically. I certainly remember those commercials in the 80's. Always had a weird feeling about all of those commercials from the Mormons and the like. (I also have some Mormon texts as well, just as made up and funny) I will also go ahead and say that the difference between scientific theory and others is repeatable results. Again, I am a skeptic, but if I see crows that are all black all through the summer, every summer, I am going to assume most crows are black. Of course others have different colors, but black is the over all majority in the sample of crows I've seen. You can not recreate walking on the water without help or verify the machines Scientologist use to measure their made up shit. You can recreate evolution, IE FUCKING PLANTS!
i dont get into religion...its all cultish to me...but my beef with evolution is, how come monkeys, or where ever humans came from, arent still turning into humans....why did it just stop???...all of a sudden the apes jus decided there was enough humans and quit mutating??...i always wondered that....how come there isnt still in-betweeners walking around...dammit, i should have a cro-magnon neighbor.
microevolution can be observed and scientifically proven but macroevolution purportedly occurs over hundreds of thousands or even millions of years. There is no way that modern science can undisputedly say that the theory of evolution IS 100% correct. Just as creationists can't prove their theory or beliefs. Both have some form of historical and or scientific evidence to give some sort of credence to both. The debate will rage on....... As for scientologists go, well, I can't say that I am educated about their beliefs, what little I do know leads me to believe that it's 100% a scam to get money. But that is because of the circumstances surrounding the creation of their belief system, and the way that they operate their "Church" in regards to their parishioners and their money, and not necessarily because L. Ron Hubbard was a science fiction writer or because it was only created within the last century.
After reading the book, Dianetics, I went to a Scientology center in the 70s when I was in my 20s. I was 'searching' for myself and 'truth' I did a lot of searching back then. I took a personality test. I don't remember what was on it. Then I was taken to another room where a guy who looked like an evil preacher, thin, slicked-back hair, horn-rim glasses and that look that LionLoves mentioned: "blank and soulless, cold and bright, combined with a generic smile" He looked more like an animated mannequin. He had me hold 2 tin cans, one in each hand, that were connected to some machine with wires. After a while, he told me I needed to receive a 'clearing' and I had to join the church. I think there was money involved. By this time I was getting a really bad feeling. That guy had freaked me out. With difficulty, I was able to leave. They didn't try to force me to stay but they were much too perisistent. I had foolishly given them my phone number and they kept calling every night for about 3 weeks until I threatened to report them to the Police. The calls finally stopped. Now I believe in me.
Hubbard and Alexander Crowley were in the same church. Gnostic If I recall correctly. Hubbard was all about money. Google Crowley and Hubbard, all kinds of craziness going on between those two.:dog-nana: :dog-nana: :alien11:
I've often wondered that myself. I am like Lion, if I had to lean towards one type, it would be something with provable scientific evidence, such as evolution. BUT Whatever the argument, be it allah, jesus, aliens, spirit gods, or even our scientists, there is one final FACT that you cannot get past - NONE can really 100% prove anything. Big bang and black holes and all of the scientific stuff even, once you get past a certain point, is all theory and calculations. We, as humans, simply cannot find out "the ultimate answers" at this point with the brains we have right now. Even Hawking and his geek squad just theorize. It's all silly nonsense that does more , stealing, murdering, and every other crime "in the name of......(insert name here)" GTWT :XXhippylove:
WATCH THIS SHORT VIDEO OF A MAN BEING HARRASSED AND PUSHED AWAY FROM A PUBLIC AREA BY SCIENTOLOGISTS AND SECURITY WHO ARE OBVIOUSLY DOWN FOR THE CAUSE. Just look at the way these men look. Watch their eyes and how they act. REALLY CREEPY. The 3 guys a few minutes in.... straight BRAINWASHED. Very aggressive too. The short one with messy brown hair is creepy as fuck. "WHAT CRIMES HAVE YOU DONE?!?! WHAT CRIMES HAVE YOU DONE?!?!?!?"
so this scientology believes our maker was from another planet? somefucked up eh. and Mormoms believe the sae thing, slightly different but they do. My sis in law is mormom and when I try to talk to her about that she wont speak of it, says it is a subject not to be discussed with non belie vers. I guess it is the biggest subject that they get trolled for. and they believe only the highest level MEN in the church will ever get to "heaven" women never do, they only make a few levels in the church. and she believes that women have no right to tell a man, her 5yr old son included, that he cannot do something or have something. if a man asks it is her duty to do what she can to make him have it. I always wonder how anyone can follow a religion that segregates peoples and has philosophies that consider them the end all of religions. but even more how can anyone believe in a religion that was written by a man who published a paper about how to start your own religion then went ahead and wrote the "bible"they follow.
the ape walks upright at a zoo in canada. one poster asked why monkeys dont continue to evolve. i think this one is.
It's all fucked up. All these "religions" are in the same boat...and that boat sinks. It's got a LOT of holes in it.
