Their absence raises questions about Iraq's military state. Hussein's Worst Weaponry Is a No-Show, So Far By Paul Richter, Times Staff Writer WASHINGTON -- Two days into the fighting, what is most remarkable about the war against Iraq may be what has not happened: no chemical or germ attacks, no Scud missile launches, no strikes on Israel. Saddam Hussein's regime has long insisted that it no longer has weapons of mass destruction, a claim U.S. officials reject. The fact that Hussein has not yet used any such weapons raises questions for officials and analysts about the condition of the military he has commanded for a quarter of a century. "We're ready to have him do his worst," one U.S. official said. "We're still waiting." Despite some erroneous reports on Thursday, the Iraqis apparently have not launched any of the banned Scud B missiles, which were their most damaging weapon during the 1991 Gulf War. Hussein apparently has fired no more than a dozen shorter-range missiles, although he was believed to have had hundreds in southern Iraq and was expected to lob many of them into U.S.-led forces in Kuwait.

U.S. forces looking for Iraqi Scud missiles and weapons of mass destruction find none 51 minutes ago By ROBERT BURNS, AP Military Writer WASHINGTON - U.S. special operations troops combing Iraq (news - web sites) for Scud missiles and chemical or biological weapons have found none so far, a senior American military officer said. Maj. Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the vice director of operations for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told a Pentagon (news - web sites) news conference Saturday that the Iraqis have not fired any Scuds and that U.S. forces searching airfields in the far western desert of Iraq have uncovered no missiles or launchers. Iraq denies having any Scuds, which have sufficient range to reach Israel, but Gen. Tommy Franks, who is running the war, said Saturday that Iraq has yet to account for about two dozen Scuds that United Nations (news - web sites) inspectors have said were left over from the 1991 Gulf War (news - web sites).
If I'm not mistaken, they have fired a scud or two.Seems like our patriots got one of them???CNN maybe?I dont know.It doesn't matter...we're there now.
i dunno THCdude, its 6:00am in new york, and the news is still saying that out of 10 missles fired at kuwait, 2 were scuds. I dont know who to believe, but im not going to believe the LA times. Thats left as hell and very bias, more than foxnews, (the number 1 watched cable news channel from coast to coast, and in dozens of countries all over the world) PERIOD!!
Yes ranger, were there now. The liberation of Iraq has begun, and the iraqis are very very happy to see us and many are willing to risk thier homes to remove saddam. Even one of those human shields has videotape of one saying he would commit suicide if the bombing didnt start soon. This Bush will not let them down the way his father did.
Got a giggle out of that did ya? lol Have you seen how happy the iraqis are in the towns we secured? Did you make you feel good knowing that your stance could have prevented that happiness? And kept those people under the rule of saddam?
especially after we exhausted our diplomatic attempts and were thrown out of the country by Saddam, not cowboy Bush. Either way they would have been liberated...you seem to fail to grasp that idea Sylent...although I'm hardly surprised at this point. You seem to think that if the inspections failed that people would have just packed up and left!? If inspections failed then not I nor anyone here from what I've read whould oppose this action. Then it would have been a fully supported liberation, backed by 99.9 % of our allies. Since peacfull channels were producing results and far from exhausted...the inpectors pulled out by George Bush, this is simply an Invasion. Honestly, does one mans lack of patients justify even 1 death ? Virtua:
