I heard some scratching noise on my wood fence in the back yard, so I orignaly thought it was a raccoon, see them every night, then I seen something that looked like a bat on the top of the fence, then when I got closer it looked like a bat wing hanging over the fence and I couldn't see the other side, but when I got even closer it looked like a fucked up looking hand, well webbed fingers over the top of the fence and they were moving like you would tap your fingers on the table, now I swear I don't think it was a bat. It's got me freaked out now. the finger looking things were about 5 or 6 inches long, because the top brace for the fence is just about that low from the top and that how long the "Thing" was hanging down. I should of just got the shotgun and went to the other side of the fence and seen what it was, but I would have had to jump the fence to do that and in the back in the dark, to much for me.

Anyone got any idea of what it might have been?

Chupacabra. Or Mothman. Or something more believable like a possum.

A piece of wind-blown garbage briefly stuck on top of your fence?

Time to move. They know where you live.

it def was something alive, it was moving, I've cut trees and stuff off that fence in the past year and nothing hangs off of it, I would think a bat would be hanging off of a tree branch and not one wing over the fence and the rest of the body and other wing on the other side. But the only bats I've ever seen around here was small brown bats, this was three or more times the size and more longer finger type things past the webbing that bats have. Nothing on the fence to eat as far as bugs on the fence, maybe a small lizard is the only thing I have ever seen on the fence.

see, you should have grabbed the shotty and a flashlight, i never pass up an opportunity to face something like that on my property. probly stupid on my part but hey, my sawed off 12 is a beast within 10-20 feet. I keep it loaded with a bird shot load, slug, bird shot, etc. I live out in the county about 30 miles outside the city with a horse and goats and shit. I have to chase off/shoot coyotes and feral hogs and such. the bird shot works on the dogs the slugs work on hogs

I seen a tree rat today on the fence and it had two legs over the fence with 1/2 it's body on the top, it looked a lot like I seen and night, so the mystery might be over, but if it wasn't the tree rat?

At least a good warning shot. No reason to live in fear on your own property.

Ya know what, I have a bunch of acrobats raiding my bird feeders every day, and I could easily see how one of them clinging to a fence partly obscured from view would look damn creepy. They hang by their feet from the roof of one feeder while they smoke and play cards at the other.
