i am about 2-3 weeks from my harvest from my first grow. it's getting a bit stinky inside the tent.

the past week if you stand at the corner of the shed outside (the tent is on the inside at that spot) you can sometimes smell the bud. I'm very concerned, because i know what's in there will continue to get stinkier by the day.

i have a large carbon filter inside the tent - i can't remember how they are measured, but it's a pretty large one, maybe 12" diameter, foot and a half long..... this is our first grow, i would not expect the filter to be exhausted at this point. i thought perhaps the tent is leaking a bit but with the fan it's got a pretty good suction on it. the walls are caved in a bit when you just look at the tent.

the exhaust is vented to underneath the shed, and we're pretty sure this is where the smell is coming out the most.

What gives??? i thought we covered all the bases.... :(

my shed is a pretty discreet setup, but let's be real, if a good breeze sends that shit 100 feet next door, a neighbor would more than likely recognize the smell.....

If the carbon filter and fan are adequate then you have a leak somewhere, either the tent or ducting. If you can't find the leak then add a uv filter to the end of the exhaust line and it will kill any odors.

I have the 8" model and it works so well that I don't have to use a carbon filter, but I use one anyway.

HHHG - does it make any noise when it's on? i don't want to add to the fan noise if i can help it - it's why ozone gen. is not an option.....

will try to get some pics tonight.....

I gave advice yesterday about the same thing but I think he had a different filter then I thought but sounds like you have the same as I use. I had one before that did the same thing it worked for most of 1 grow and a few weeks before harvest it smelled slightly. I called the manufacturer and they say to shake it and you should hear no noise. Sure enough it did. The carbon had not been packed enough and it settled over time. That would be the first thing ide check

The UV filter is an ozone generator and it is silent

its 424 cfm, and i've got a controller on it now. it's how i control temps in the winter. it's turned down in the low range right now, since it's just now getting up to the 60's and still 30's at night....

i've borrowed a friends ozone generator before for allergy experiments, and when it kicked on it had a noise. this must work differently??? (the one i borrowed made tiny miniature sparks - lightning - and a fan blew across the plates & out, so the fan made noise)

i will look into getting one of those - i can't risk that smell getting wafted across to someone else's yard, just when they go towards my yard!!!

A uv lamp makes about as much noise as any other fluoresctent lamp.

You can get them in many different sizes and styles. Including one already mounted in round pipe.

Good luck with it...I hate having things to be parandoid about :pimp:

The 6" Big Blue would probably work for your setup. There are no moving parts or fan inside the ozone generator. The exhaust fan pushes air through the uv duct which has light bulbs that change the molecules into clean smelling ozone. Just make sure there is a good run of ducting after the uv filter and that it is directed to outdoors so the ozone doesn't harm you or irritate the eyes and sinuses.

Those look cool, and I may incorporate a 6" into my new growroom.

Too bad the bulbs only last a year and a half @ $50. a pop.

Got a pic of your setup HHHG? Do you run yours 24/7?

It seems expensive but security is priceless imo. I don't have any pics. The fan and uv filter run 24/7 in the attic. My fan is around 600cfm and I only use 2 of the 3 uv bulbs.

i was growing in a closet and this was my filter...better too big then too small...http://www.bghydro.com/BGH/itemdesc.asp?ic=AOCCF050CB06HO&eq=&Tp=

i give you the irl so you can check what you have against what i was using and i vented fresh air into the room...then used the filter for cleaning air only...i didnt connect to light or anything like that...from the room to the attic was where the air went to...

    room size was 5' x 7' x 7'h ...

i had no problems with smell...non at all...

    so to recap..

    1. buy bigger filter

    2. vent to another room...or area...not back into tent or same room

    3. do not connect filter to light to cool light...make atmosphere control a separate system...

    3. on the outside of the room..use an alternative...like ionic, or the freshener tablets....

that should help...hope it does...good luck

here's my setup: air first gets pulled into the filter, then through the light. out the tent, through the fan, and then vented to underneath the shed. (this is my veg tent, btw, flowering is nighty-night time right now, but looks exactly the same...)

i want to try what HHHG is referring to, the UV light, but fucking nuts, man, that's just more $ i gotta (and don't wanna) fork over!!!!

someone suggested shaking my filter - any input on that???

    peace

I use an Ozone Generator. I've had it for many years and it still works. Maybe not as effective as it once was, but it's still effective.

I got mine from someone here on :GK: and I don't use it at all anymore . . .

    You want it?

I'd be more than happy to send it to you, just pay for the shipping and Its yours. It's only fair that I send the unit along to another :GK:er.
    ;)

This is the EXACT model I have . . . You might need to change the bulb, but it's still alot cheaper than buying an entirely new unit.;! I know it'll work as is, but you might get a little better result with a new bulb, but it isn't necessary at all.

    Let me know . . .

I can certainly USE it, but you NEED it, darlin'. If it's the best application for you and you want it. It's yours.

    What a nice guy . . .

This is the Forum Thread equivalent of Hi-Jacking an airliner full of people and releasing the sick and the slow, as a sign of good faith.

If I had known that AJ wanted it, I would have offered it to him long ago. But, I didn't and I offered it to you GTWT. ;) All I care about is it ends up where it's needed most.

Ok, lets figure out where it's best used . . . Let's see if I have this correct GTWT . . . You have a single grow area with 2 separate "grow tents" inside?

Each of your "grow tents", flower and veg, are equipped with those bad ass charcoal filters?

You have fan inline pulling/pushing the air through the charcoal filters?

I'd say GTWT is MORE in NEED of this unit, no offense AJ, but I don't want it to be useless in her situation, so I want to be sure that this unit will heal her problem.

I'm 1/2 thinking that with some fine tuning with her filters, she wouldn't have the problem at all, thus eliminating the need for the ozone generator. Then AJ could use it. ;)

Let's see if we can figure this all out . . .

P.S. Hey GTWT, it's ok if you call AJ a vulture!:rofl6:

If I'd known you were just going to give it away, I'd have stolen it from your house with all the other shit I've taken. :yikes:

edit: actually; I misread Rky's post (it's Friday :jj: ) and thought he was just throwing it out there to whoever pounced first. I didn't notice it was directed towards you GTWT.

    What a :dickhead:

    It's yours. :not-worthy: I don't even want it now. :5grouphug:

    RKY, SHIP IT!!!
