Hmm, well, let me tell you this guy's plans. He's going to start some seedlings outdoors in the woods, not indoors. Au natural style. The plan is to get a clear 2gal+ water bottle and cut off the top. Underneath will be a seed tray with about 6-8 plugs, depending on what he can fit underneath. He's thinking of doing this ASAP. A simple curiosity is at hand. Cold weather is still present, being early April in a northern climate, but warm weather is on it's way. Does the surrounding container help keep the plants any warmer, or does the cold air and wind pretty much transfer through the clear plastic, keeping it the same temp. as outside the plastic? I know this does not matter much, but it's more a curiosity than question.
Sup FTM, I have Done that with my first outdoor's Grow, It worked in the cold weather and acted like a Mini Green House. But The bad news is that The plants Didn't Do very well. I Learned that u should Start them indoors under a few flour's then move them out when they R about 6-10". Now I did that And It worked Amazingly. I now have 1 plant thats 2ft+, and I have 2 other that are 1 1/2+.. I say u tell ur friends friends friend to buy some flour's and start the seedlings under thoes. Seedlings Need A lot of care and just putting them outside with a container lod over it just dont cut it if u want the best weed. No doubt it will work but godluck with comming out with some " GOOD " Quality bud. -mikey-
Your plants won't get any ventilation in your envisioned set up, and plants need to breathe. Best to start 'em inside like mikey said.
Where the problem is,its the fact that during the night it gets colder and your seedlings will not grow well enough,it would be better starting them off inside, you have better chances, besides whats the tempature out there during the night?
FTM, If ur still planning on doing that for ur outdoor grow, I have founf it best to go buy 1 2-lieter coke bottle for each plant u R going to use the tops for. I have found that if u try using the top and the bottom of the coke bottle, the top works a lot better cuz the pouring spout ( The Neck where the CAP goes on ) Allows Much more air into the Mini Green house. And I would Also Drill about 6-8 holes in the top as well... -mikey- it will work and yes it will keep them warmer, but ur better off starting them off inside....
Well mikey, I had done exactly just that. I do plan on buying a floro to start them off with, if only my friend wasn't a lazy ass and wanted to go do stuff like go to Home Depot.
