Picked up a milwaukke pen today. I remember reading on here that storing it in the storage solution screws them up, but cant find thread now. So whats the best way to store them? I know no distilled water. Also,do you ph water before or after you add nutes? thanks guys
Hi Zog! I just make sure my pen is rinsed, and lightly shaken dry. A little moisture will prevent the probe from drying up. I also recall, as you said, people saying that storing it in the solution is no good. I've had my current pen for just over a year now and it seems fine. Every time I've gone to calibrate it, it's been spot on. pH adjustment before/after is a controversial topic. I believe the correct way is to pH adjust before you add your nutes, and allow the buffers to do their job, but I think this is all considering you know how the buffers will react. I personally pH adjust after nutes are added at the moment and have had no issues. The most important thing to note is that if you mix pH up and pH down they neutralise somehow and create salts. I forget exactly how it works, but I remember that the by-product is salt and that's certainly not something you want to introduce to your grow, so just make sure that you never put pH up and pH down in the same solution.
Mine has a cap that goes on the tip, your supposed to fill it with fresh TAP water, its an OAKTON ($119) gotta keep the probe wet
Ya if they tell you to keep it soaking in electrode storage solution or pH solution....dont' listen to them. I did this and had a probe go wacky on me and had the actual manufacturer tell me to use spring water. I've had no issues since using that.
I have a milwaukee sm802. I burned probably three probes out on it that they promptly replaced. I called and talked to one of the tech guys. He told me not to store it in the storage solution. He told me to put it in a quart jar of spring water. I had no further problems. Teamster6
I have a milwaukee PH53 and I use a little bit of the pH 7.01 calibration solution in the cap. In my instructions it said use either storage buffer solution OR 7.01 calibration solution, so I use the calibration solution and have had no problems over the last year since I bought it.
hey you guys thanks so much for the help. good thing i live in the mountains, first thing in the mornin i gonna set out searchin for a spring and get some water, lol. u dudes and dudettes kick ass rock
