hi again ,,,,,,,,, i just got a old barn light from a friend it is really, really bright it say's on the inside that it is a mercury bulb .175 watt. my question is can i change this bulb to a hps in this fixture ??also can i go with a bigger wattage like a 250 wat hps or a 300 wat ?? this is a huge fixture with a box on the back inclosed in a glass sheild looks like a street lamp . any help would be great ,,,,thanks
i must add weather it is ok to use a mercury bulb, will it do good for the flowering stage or the veg stage ?
now from what ive read the mv lamp is just about the most waste of lumens per watt you can get. i read its about worthless for growing but it can be done. personally ive never used one for this reason. unless the light says switchable its not. good luck.
If its a mercury vapor.. According to Sylvania # Intial Lumens: 7,900 # Mean Lumens: 7,400 # Color Temp. (CCT or K): 6,800 These may vary slightly however it should serve as a good reference point.. If anyone here can translate kelvin for us we can see just how well it will work for veg and flower.
just because its a screw in bulb doesent mean you can just screw any bulb you want into it. if you do, you might not like the result when you turn it on.
Now i am tempted to get a 300 wat hps and screw it in and see wht happens ,,,,, but i don't want anything to blow up ,,,,,,,accept my buds,,,, any suggestions ?
anybody guess whatll happen when this guy screws a HPS bulb into a MV ballast? mr. general, id like to see your results, please get back to us on this, if you can.
