RecessionGrower recently lost his mother to an illness she was battling with for quite some time. I don't know all the details, nor will I get into them here, he can if he wants.

Please keep him in your thoughts/prayers as he goes through this tough time.

Your GK family loves you dearly

I hope you and your family find the strength to get through this most difficult time. The loss of a parent is devasting, I lost my dad 23 years ago. He was my best friend and I still feel the hole left by his loss.

May the holiday season help you deal with this time of loss. If she had been battling illness now she is at reast and peace. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. All the best wishes and deepest sympathy for you.

  10. Thanks guys!

Today has been a hard day.

When I look at it, im a 26 year old whose both parents have passed. My dad left at a young age, and I was raised by my mother alone for the past 17 years (and kept teaching me new things about life till her last day here on earth)

A little backstory: My mom was a 2 pack a day smoker for 40 years. She developed lung cancer 8 years ago during my freshman year of college. I left school and started working full time to help support her till she could get back to work ect. Even after she beat the cancer and was back to work, life was still very hard for her. Ive helped her with most aspects of daily life. That alone wasnt an easy ride, and it taught me a lot of responsibility at such a young age. Most kids my age were out partying their asses off (and dont get me wrong - i did my fair share from time to time, but my main priority in life was making sure my mom was ok)

Back in early summer, she got pneumonia, was stubborn and wouldnt go to the doctors - DAMN STUBBORN IRISH! - and when we finally got her to go to the doctors, things were bad, just made complicated due to missing most of a lung). It has been a rollercoaster ride the past almost 4 months. There was a time a few weeks in when they had called me and told me she was pretty much gone, and was just keeping her on support till I could get home (I was 800 miles away at the time) but she bounced back from that by the time I got home the next morning! She had been transferred out to a hospital about 2 hours east of me, and i was making the trip out 3-4 times a week, which with working 50+hrs a week made my life a hectic mess, but I did whatever I had to spend as much time with her as I could.

She ended up with various infections and basically every organ in her body basically stopped working. She was at an amazing hospital, but no matter what they did, things just kept taking a turn for the worse. Things got really nasty, and the ended up shifting their focus to making her comfortable to pass. I was on my way out there to see her this morning when I was about 20 minutes away and was told she had passed, almost like she didnt want me to see her go. When I got there to say my good byes, I will say she looked at peace, a truly relieving feeling for me.

Ive spent the day talking and seeing family and friends. Ive laughed harder then I have in months. My family has a kind of twisted way of dealing with death, but its our own special way.

The legal side of things is my next concern. All that has to be done just really makes me go OH SHIT! when i think about it, but it will get done.

Sorry for the ramblings, Im a bit high! but all in all, today was a day of celebration of my mothers life. I am truly at peace, even though I know getting through everything is going to be hard.

Thanks again to my family here at GK! I'll actually have TONS of more room and am looking to expand the garden, so i'll be here quite more often im sure!

GTWT! Thanks! Im out of work for a little while and will be free most nights, let me know your schedule and lets grab some brews!

I dread the day my parents are gone; especially Mom. I'll be lost.

Hope you can find some solace in knowing the battle is over. The battle is won.

  13. She will always live on in my heart and look over me.

Visiting some friends tonight I hadnt seen in a while, hopped on the thruway (rarely have to do so), looked for the toll and saw that all that was in the cup holder was pennies! I start digging all over the car, as the smallest bill I have on me is a $50 to pay a 30 cent fucking toll! Dig into the center console, feel an odd piece of metal, pull it out and sure enough, its a small angel pendant. Sent chills down my spine.

Found no change and ended up paying the toll guy in 30 pennies HAHAHAHA
