Thoughts for a new sticky... diagnosis protocol!

Ok, so since I've had a few stumbling blocks along the way for my first 2 grows, I was thumbing through some of the FAQs and links that members have posted (props to Resin Rubber for his Nitsche chart!) and was wondering if we could all pool our collective diagnostic skills and tips and create a GK diagnosis protocol or flow sheet for members to use. Like have a checklist of sorts to help steer folks in the right direction.

    For example:

Is your issue manifesting on the lower (older leaves) or on the younger (upper) leaves?

    Lower = likely mobile macronutrients

    Upper - likely immobile

etc. etc. with larger-picture items being narrowed along the way until the end-user has eliminated most of the other issues that "could" be, increasing the liklihood that they will adjust correctly to fix their issue.

Obviously one may not be dealing with ONE problem at a time, but if you ID the problem, you can link that to a cause, then see if that cause would have an affect on other things that might cause secondary symptoms.

    For example:

A pH problem may manifest with what looks like a N deficiency, but addition of N doesn't fix that. Since one may have chlorotic leaves and slow growth, the pH issue would be paramount to adding/adjusting any nutrient regimen.

    GK Gods, whaddaya think?

    great idea

go ahead and get it started its a great idea...will work in conjunction with the current problem growth chart in faq that was brought here from another site...which i have found helpful...

maybe something like this only in your format....

    great idea...good luck...

That would be great and the timing is good. The faq is undergoing reworking...albeit slowly.

I'd suggest GK members submit personal pics of differing issues and we create one completely our own.

A pharmacist who is used to diagnosis and category protocol would be perfect to organize such info.......now who do we know who'd fits that bill?:eusa_whistle:

well, yeah! Send the info on over and I'll see what I can compile of the next little bit. It can be a dynamic chart, meaning there will be many updates and versions as more material comes out or if we find better ways to word things or illustrate points/problems/fixes. My inner nerd is really excited about this!

Another thing that would help is if I/we got member contributions in regards to how you go about assessing your plants. Do you start by testing the temp and humidity? Look from the tops down? Bottom up? Calibrate meter and test pH? Runnoff? Where do YOU start when analyzing your grows?

I dunno..I look at-em and think 'NICE!' or think 'oh fuck, calcium deficiency'.

Maybe just start with member pic contributions with diagnosis and fixes already made. Categorize them, choose the pics that most clearly demonstrate affliction. For on the fly skip option diagnosis I would think top (new growth) down (old growth) would make sense.

    example:

    Yellowing Leaves

1 Is the new growth yellowing? Yes, see line 2. No, skip to line 5

2 Is the yellowing between leaf veins? Yes, see line 3. No see line 3

    ect.

    Make any sense?
