To pick or not to pick?

I have 4 plants flowering in each of two 2x2 tables. I knew it was coming up on 7 weeks so I started flushing 4 days ago. It's been a couple days since I've been to the house with Christmas shit and all.

But, I went by this afternoon to check on everything, especially all the new clones, and there were some tops in one table screaming "Pick me, Pick me"! They've been in for 50 days, but that hydro finishes way earlier. So, I asked myself 'pick with 4 days flush or wait?' I couldn't stand it and picked a top and checked it out with the loop. Frosty! Frosty!

This table was the A-13, a Bigbud and Skunk cross, and with a single topping will give me at least 4 big colas on each one plus the lower stuff. The lights hadn't come on yet so I went ahead cut 9 or 10 tops I could see in the dim green light I use to get around when the main lights are off.

So, here they are with a rough trim. Would you have picked them or left them a few more days?

This bub wants no part of the trimmer and is insisting to be trimmed by hand.

After trimming them up I'd decided to cut a few more but when I got back to the room the lights had been on for over an hour so I decided to wait until another day.

Only thing about waiting much longer is that I've got several girls like this OG Kush waiting for her turn.

I know everyone says 10-14 days for flush in soil, not sure what the rule of thumb for hydro is, mainly getting the ferts out for the best taste. Those are some frosty bitches, you got a great shot for the dec bud contest there. With the leds, i got a frosty goody too...:smokin:

I have flushed 7 days with hydro and it tasted as good as 10 days. But you know the saying, its all about flush and cure.

Yeah JCIO, Somebody else will be puffing those and be tickled shitless to have them.

There's still at least that many big colas left on that table and another table full of the AK coming to term as well.

Yeah BB that phone isn't the best for pics but pics aren't my biggest concern right now. I'll leave some nicer tops for the bud contest I guess but I need to make room for all the Kush that's been waiting their turn.

Thanks guys, this is gonna be a pretty big couple of weeks. For my poor hands and the trimmer. With those two tables finishing up 'cause those hydro tops are so big and knarly I have to trim them by hand, but I'll get over it.

I'll start to flush the 8 in the Lumigrow room today and pull them in a week or so. They're in soil and not quite as big as the hydro but, like I've said before, watt for watt the LEDs can more than hold their own.

The last LED grow was in 'hydro' and finished in 51 days which is the standard for hydro regardless of the light. Soil is usually about 56 - 60 under the HPS. But from the looks of things these will finish up several days short of that. Suggesting that the LED may help speed things up, but, I did set up CO2 in that room this round. So I'll have to hold off, just yet, on giving the LEDs 'all' the credit for the earlier finish time.

So here's a some shots of the Lumigrow LED plants at 44 days. started flushing today and they should be more than ready in a week.

Those fixtures have a switch that cuts off the red and blue leaving just the white. Which is how I took the pics. Here's what it looks like with the red and blue still on. Weird man.

Question- From the LED gardens you cats are posting, I don't think I've seen one where the plants are depleted late in flower. They all look vibrant and green with chunky flowers even when they should show some signs of aging. Have you noticed this in your garden CG?

Resin you have to admit they do look nice and chunky. :redbong:

Res, not exactly sure what you mean by depleted. Now the plants will have some yellowing in the upper leaves and their share of brown lower stuff, but I try to keep that picked off. You can see a bit of the lower leaves there starting to loosing their color. The green will fade even more as the flush goes on.

More often than not most folks pics don't show all the "less than perfect". It's just human nature and I'm as bad as anyone. It's just habit to pick off or hide the uglier shit when showing off your stuff. The signs of aging and the flaws are there, we just don't want anyone to see them.

    thnx CG.

That's why I asked. Chunky and vibrant green are typically an odd combination in my gardens. If a simple light can keep a plant at full health further into flowering, it's a good thing.

  17. CREATIVE GARDENER

You know Res, back in the day when growing was an outdoor thing the buds weren't really ready until half the leaves had turned brown and fallen off and the plant was clearly on it way out. But I'm thinking the breeding for indoor strains and especially the shorter flowering times could have the flowers finishing up before the vegetation has run it's course.

So, I don't really think it's the type of light as much as the faster flowering time in these strains. I would think that strains finishing in 9 - 10 weeks would show more age than the 7 - 8 week ones do. Just my logic!!

I finished taking the last tops off of the tables yesterday. As I was coming down the stairs with a box of buds I was thinking how nice it was to have the bud trimmer. It saves me hours and hours of trim time.

But it's still pretty nice to have a box of tops that the trimmer ain't got shit on, like these!!

    Sticky fingers!!

Here's why they call it Bigbud!!

But as big as these babies are, hate to say it, but the Lumigrow Led buds were the hands down pick for my contest entry. Not nearly as big but I was impressed. Of course this isn't the entry, just an example.
