Hey ya'll, thought I'd throw up some pics from my new trail cam hobby. I bought a few trail cameras about 3 years ago, but never used them. 5:00 a.m. Sun, July 1, when I was finally putting out my outdoor grow (5 plants, 2 died, 3 taken a bit early due to mold, yielded 110g, next year, I swear to christ, I'm going big with 30 plants), I saw a little fox in the area. Watched for a long time and he came within about 5 meters as he didn't see me. It was cool. I love nature and wild animals. I remembered about the trail cams I had and decided to put one out. I've got two of those original ones and a new one going now for 4 months and have taken quite a few secret pics. Shit loads of crows and cats, but also plenty of fox, tanuki (raccoon dog), a couple of pheasant shots, and a Japanese marten. Recently, I also caught the back end of a Japanese Hare. Still experimenting with locations and angles, distances and baits. The area is kind of a backwater with mostly persimmon and apple orchards, some vegetable plots, overgrown fields, woods, etc... There are plenty of places to grow little guerrilla plots and the cameras actually give me a nice alibi to be wandering about in case anyone asked, which will likely never happen, but anyway. Eventually will move to different locations around the mountain. Want to get more hare/marten shots along with weasel, wild boar, badger and whatever else I can score. So, thought I'd throw up the best of what I've got so far for the nature lovers out there. Cheers. One more thing, when I uploaded onto the site the chronological order was lost, so there was a bit of a lost narrative there. There were two foxes, always coming separately. One bigger with bad mange and one smaller and healthy. I ordered medicine online (anti-parasite and antibiotics) and crushed the pills and mixed the powder in with the food I put out, and left the medicated food out every couple days for like 5 or 6 weeks to make sure the sick guy got some. Well, he seems to have made a great recovery I'm happy to say. The pics where he is sick look horrible, but I'll point out the recent picks of him where he is almost 100% healed up. :coool: My nemesis. I hate this guy. A tanuki, which is called a raccoon dog in English. They are roly-poly and cute and are popular characters in Japanese folklore. Jungle crow. A lot of people don't like crows, but I think they look pretty cool. Two tanuki. I've seen the tanuki together in pics on several occasions. The two fox are always separate in the pics, although I've seen them together running around twice. Hopefully, in the spring, I can get some baby tanuki or fox pics. That would be beyond awesome. Tanuki. Tanuki Fox. The smaller, healthy one. Now, a couple shots of the mangy one. I've got quite a few pics of him scratching, too. Must have felt pretty bad. He's lost most of his hair and has open sores on his shoulders and hips, plus he's skinny as fuck. I read that when the mange gets bad they get super agitated and nerve-wracked and then develop intestinal worms which cause them to lose lots of weight and eventually they go over the edge. I think this is the mangy one after he got mostly better, but before the hair on his tail had grown back. It's kinda hard to tell sometimes. My first two cameras are pretty lo-res. I didn't even notice there were two different foxes until I started using a new hi-res camera. And, after I started putting the medicine out, I didn't see any fox for a month or so. The summer is their boom season. They eat LOTS of persimmons as I find the seeds in their scat. Also, there is plenty of everything else around as well. And, I'm pretty sure this is the mangy one after an almost complete recovery. He still has some issues with the hip area. I think I'm gonna do another session with the medicine just to make sure we are in the clear. This, I think, is the smaller one that didn't have the mange. Maybe it's a girl. The rest of the pics are in no particular order and I don't really know who is who. I read on wiki that the fox dominates the tanuki, which surprised me as the tanuki is much stockier looking. For those of you who don't know, the tanuki is a member of the dog family. It's not closely related to the raccoon, which are closer to the bear family. The tanuki is also the only member of the dog family that is any good at climbing trees, or so I've read. Hello Ghost Cat, I hate you less than the other cats. This a great location that I have abandoned recently due to cat interference. Some old industrial roofed area with open steel girder sides. I went up there last week and made a nice campfire and drank some beers by myself in the middle of the night. It was nice. The higher res camera also does infrared and vid. Flash is usually too bright, though. Crows are true survivors. The zombie apocalypse will be a picnic for them. Beauty. Fucking fat ass douche cat. My friend has a curry restaurant and he gave me like 10kg of chicken skins as he doesn't use them. I had hoped to put some fat on my fox friend. After a week of putting out loads of skins every day at two different locations, I had 200 pics of cats and crows eating 10kg of chicken skins at two different locations. My dream of dreams is to get pics of the fox killing and eating the cat. In a small cedar plot. Couple of pheasant. I've seen loads of pheasant and would love to catch and eat one. Japanese Marten! What a gorgeous guy. Got to work on getting more of them. I believe they change coats and this is the winter one, a beautiful creamy orange. And a few leftover, who knows what order, shots. Looks so content. I think it was a cup of peanut butter. Lol. Tanuki sniffing some sweet bread. I don't think he went for them. One of my earliest fox shots. Hey fella. Well, that's it. Hope you enjoyed. Thread will be updated (unlike my grow threads, lol) as it's an ongoing thing. Cheers GK. asssit:
I can feel the great energy from your kiddos. They look so happy and content! Aren't you an American?
Thanks, yes, I'm American. If you mean that my kids look Asian, well they are half Japanese and when you mix people together you don't always get a perfect 50/50 blend. I've seen lots of half-Japanese kids that look completely like the foreign parent. Or, you might have 1 kid look white, and one asian. It's totally random. :icon_confused:
Well, biologically their DNA is exactly 50/50 from me and my wife. But, most genes are not concerned with your physical appearance. I also should point out that American doesn't equal white. I could still have an Asian face and be American. That's one thing that America has over Japan, diversity. I know a few Asian-Americans living in the area and they are, without a doubt, first and foremost American. Their Asian ancestry is a part of their identity of course, but they are much, much culturally closer to old white guy me than to the Japanese. :read2:
Hank i was chatting to my cousin on FB and practically retired Royal Air Force (no more f,he did his time in Falklands,Northern Ireland and Iraq though f Harrier Jump Jets and chinook helicopters)... hes moved out into the Welsh valleys where its quieter and slower pace of life but he loves his great outdoors. Hes recently set up trail cams and bird cams. Hes got little bird box he installed up a tree in the fields behind his cottage and he streams it live to a site, its called www.camstreams.com and its entirely free. He does a deer stalk cam aswell. I mentioned to him that i have a friend who does a fox trail cam and he mentioned that the site he uses is free and he gets quite a lot of hits on the cams, even when theres nothing on them lol. Just thought id mention to see if you had thought about using a free cam stream site It links up direct to FB so people can watch it from your FB page just click the link. I must admit i follow your Fox on your Facebook lol. Your Art stuff some of that i really like too. I dig your FB page man cos its different from the normal shit you see on peoples facebook, even the pictures always have some amazing scenerey like mountains and cherry blossoms. Although that pub you drink in reminds me of the kind of Japanese place where they pit scorpions against snakes for money or some shit lol. :tvlaugh:
Cool, bro, thanks. sounds like he's doing live vid cams. I haven't gone that far yet, but I'll check that site and his stuff for sure. :coool: Edit: You got links to his cams?
