I screwed up. I'm not sure what I did, but about a month ago I transplanted my seedlings to bigger pots. They seemed well-rooted and ready to go, but then I stumbled into some other problems. (I'm not certain about these problems but it could have been poor drainage in my pots, and I have since cut out more holes)

Anyway, the plants are still in medium sized pots and have seemed to survive. However, they just aren't growing. It's been a bit over a month since I transplanted them.

Should I put them in smaller pots? I have some rootech cloning gel. That stuff wouldn't -- by chance -- be helpful, would it?

    Don't think so...

I wouldn't do that. I transplanted from small yogurt cups to 2gal pots @ 3weeks old. They didn't have any transplanting shock @ all. My guess would be that something else is going on. Drainage is crucial!

I've not yet completed my first grow (second week of flower) so my experience is limited but from what I have seen this is what I think.

the best way to get a good answer here is to provide:

1.Your set up including soil, lights, space, and nutes....

    2. The condition of your plant (pictures the best) including height, color, weeks vegged, and any other info you collect....

but we are happy to help!

Had Similar problem with my SwaziRedBeard!!!

I hear ya man, i hear ya...., i had thee EXACT same problem as you, and right away il say ("DONT TRANSPLANT them DOWN WARD!!!(Into smaller buckets, LEAVE em be...:icon_confused: :qbluewacko: ) :)

Anyway, ur Plant might just have suffered a Tempreture dissorder in its root growth, as did mine...

Thus was a result of Temp's varying for different STRAINS, and i was growing a SWAZIREDBEARD strait from the streets of South Africa(Swaziland!), in the UK for the 1st time and it was dong fine untill i noticed it to be MALE and removed it from my grow room...

So, after a while of keeping it in the constant SUN through my window on the floor of my room UPSTAIR'S, The room Temp's got too small/COLD for it, and naturally it being a very HOT CLIMATED grown strain, well.... It died on me, well, in time, as its stem stopped growing, it looked healthy, but everything HAULTED in growth, once it hit a certain hight and bushyness...:icon_confused:  , so i checked the stems(middle?hardest one) and it was VERY wobbly at the bottom, where it had NEVER ever got any REAL ROOT growth in a low TEMPed room!!!

After i PULLED it from its POT/HOME(well."TEMP" home!...lol) I noticed it had some kinda root disorder, as the roots had a slight coating of something on them, and i could kinda scrape at it, but the colour wasnt getting any brighter, so i put it down to experience when growing certain STRAINS in my grow room, and how to keep good strains ALIVE iff wanting to keep em, if pollinating with a MALE and creating SEEDS for example...:punk:

Plain n simple as that my friend, but as the man said, "some pics would be Brilliant my friend!!!)

    Peace,

    UrBigBuddie.............:icon_confused: :) :punk:

P.S, Heat issues play a BIG part in getting good growth and BUD!!! :) :punk:

Bigbuddy it sounds like you had a root rot problem. Happens when the soil gets too moist. Did you mean the root color wasn't getting brighter when you scraped the stuff off? Because root rot makes the roots looks dull, and turn brown and eventually can turn to black. And they will start to sluff off. What you were scraping was most likely the actual fungus (not actualy a fungus, but classified as one)I have more experience with rot in hydro but it's the same thing soil gets. It will make the stem above the soil "damp off" and rot away (you said the stem was wobbly.....thats probly why). And ps, one kind of rot (pythium insidiosum) can infect humans, so always wear gloves when you aren't sure.

I had a plant living outside in the winter in the shed and it got down to the 40s and 30s. That plant did very well and gave me about 7 ounces. If you are having a root problem like you describe I would highly doubt it's a temp problem and would put money on it being root rot.

Kindbro, you must allow your soil to dry out almost completely. You said drainage could have been the problem, and if thats the case, your new problem is probably root rot. Rot takes hold when soil is moist and oxygen levels are low. It is an anearobic organism and oxygen is harmful to it. You could try watering with a weak solution of hydrogen peroxide (it adds oxygen, do a search, there are many threads here about it) but wait until your next watering, for now, let it dry completely. Pythium (rot) causes slow growth. Are your leaves curling down at all? The plant will stop growing and start to yellow eventually because it is not able to uptake nutes from it's roots.

Yes...Root Rot became when TEM change HAppened!!!

Yeas. i ended up with root rot, but im just saying that i had a very simple problem , that was caused by a simple mistake, and it was just in room temp drop to, that caused this root rot, as the temp's were too low for this perticular strain in SwaziRedBeard!!!

Anyway, i hope you can get to fix this, i would flush like a mofo, then add some Alg_a_MIC From Bio-Bizz products(I ONLY just PURCHASED this product, or i would have used it to help the Vigor of my root ball, and root development, as its full of root growth vitalty and all in all micro nutrient FULL, ad will help you with problems like that,IMO, that is how i couldnt fix thid problem(even though itsd a hard one to fix properly) if i had this product to use(As i explained to the man at the HYdro/SEEd store) and he said that Alg-A-Mic would be suffice in this problem with a gooood FLUSH before hand a few times, then add it as directed, all the way through vegg and fowering!!!(As it Boosts the BUDDING too, VERY WELL, as ive notic3ed in this grow, with my more INDICA phenotype of BB)

    Peace Out,

    UrBigBuddie...........

P.S, N yes, I culdnt get the roots to get any brighter or clearer when i scaped at the roots a lilttle, None whiteness came of it, so Therefor, put it down to TEMP change(Dramatically) which has Caused the root rot, as the PLant could NOT soak up the Moisture in thwe BUckets enough from the LAST feed/Watering!!!

Hey, thanks for everyone's feedback here. I think I had root rot. I noticed poor drainage a couple weeks ago and made several more holes in my black, plastic bag-like pots. Good pots are hard to find here, but I just noticed some buckets at a store that could be of use in the future. I just have to figure out a way of punching holes through them.

Kind of swamped this week so no pictures. I took a picture of my larger master kush several weeks ago and posted it here, and I'm almost positive it was experiencing the problem as my much less developed plants.

Anyway, thanks again for all your help

Sorry for the LATE reply KB....

Sorry KB i havent responded sooner to your PM but yeah drainage does sound to be the main offender in this case.BTW just for future grows,et.. try not to transplant your plants from larger pots/growbags to smaller ones as this will in no way increase you plants growth, although i understand the lines along which you were thinking.

Just drill between 4 and 6 holes in the 'bucket' with the biggest drillbit you can find, most my pots only have 4 big holes and they do just fine but they are 5gallon ones,my smaller pots DO have a lot more holes.

It IS interesting to see how differently MJ grows when grown in different size containers, etc. My grow which is still in the vegatitive state at the moment(Titled 'apprentice 2007 POG grow in 'Gallrery') is a strain called 'pot of gold' from flying dutchman seedbreeder/bank and EVERY seed i placed in a jar of water for 24hrs all germinated.

I put two of them straight into 5gallon pots and one in a tiny yoghurt size pot and the two in the 5g pot just grew insanley faster and better than the one in the tiny pot even though iv now 'transplanted/re-potted' it to a bigger pot its still lagging so from now on im just always gonna pop them into 5gallon pots to save me re-potting.

Also over my last 3 grows(iv started doing "grow journals" in great detail from start to finish of every grow/strain) iv defo proven to myself that ALL/EVERY seed that i pot in 5gallon pots defo 100% grows better even further on after re-poting,the ones that were originally planted in 5g pots ALWAYS seem to turn out my best plants out of EVERY grow, even though by the end of every grow ALL my plants are in 5g pots.

KindBro if you are havin trouble 'aquiring' pots then why not go to your local hydro store or garden centre and purchase "growbags" which have holes pre punched in them and the feedback iv heard from the growers that use them has been really positive and im actually considering giving them a try myself, although im so used to pots i dont know if id 'like' them, worth a try.Good to hear you've sorted your prob though.Peace:smokin:
