my 1st dwc grow and having some troubles... These are whiteberry and are week 2 from seed. They are in grodan starters/3" net pots/10gal Rubbermaid with 2 air pumps (ceramic air stones). My pH is at a 5.8-6.0 and seems steady. Things were peachy the 1st week and had them in plain h2o but a week ago I added nutes the rez for the 1st time. Using Botanicare (Grow/Karma/A.Shield) I cut the feeding for "seedlings" in 1/2 for this 1st feeding. That brings me to today a week later and this is how they look?? Leaves started off twisty and then started getting spotty rusty leaf tips...

    Couple questions,

    1) Have you recently calibrated your meter?

    2) What are your reservoir temps?

    3) What are you grow room temps?

To me it looks like a pH issue. My current grow looked like that as well but once I calibrated my pH meter and got pH in check it went away and they are now growing fine..

    1) Yes and I also got these killer pH strips from a laboratory supply place to use as a 2nd reference if my meter did happen to be off. I know what kind of suck can take place w/pH strips but I have to say these are awesome. Range between 4-7 only and easy to read. Either way they match my pH pen so unless they are both wrong I think the pH is all good.

    2) I have no clue but, room temps are low and I would guess the water temps are below that so I would say below 70?

    3) Temps are cool and range 70-74ish

I thought it might have been that they were just not liking the nutes and it was a little burn or heavy for them but I cut what is already a low dose in 1/2!

I assumed in my grow that when it happened it was because of pH, my meter was off a bit. It was also time to start feeding them as well. So mine either did it because the pH was off a little or because they were hungry, not positive on which was the case. They came around and are doing fine now.

Good luck, I hope someone else can be of more help.

    Blitz,

I had the same issue not as severe with some transplants into dwc. It looked like a PH issue for me.

As far as burn, could be if they get worse, I always think of burn when you see more a crinkle with the turn.

New to Rdwc/dwc myself but get a cheap therm for you bucket. You'd be suprised how warm the water actually is. Thought I was under 70, turn out was just under 80:roffl:

Good luck, and when you say half strength what type of nute are you using as it still maybe a little strong for a seedling

Haven't had those issues since i got my oakton and calibration solutions. Now i test the RO water as long as it's perfect my mix comes out perfect i even add 1-1/2 tsp of earth crystals PH up then test after it sits it's never off

Ok so... you guys say pH it's gotta be pH. thank you virago420 and everyone else for all the help. I have to stop this asap they look like hell. I have seen the "twisty" look in soil as well in the past when I have put them in Ocean Forest soil as seedlings. A long time ago Skunky told me it was because OF soil was a little hot with nutes and they twist. I thought the same could be true with these being seedlings with a shot of nutes when they were doing just fine before I fed them. I used Botanicare Pro Grow, Liquid Karma and Aquashield. Here is the chart and I took the clones/seedlings numbers and did 3.75 grow, 2.5 Karma, 2.5 Aquashield. Nippie I got a therm and stuck it in there will have a better idea what the temp is shortly! :thumbs-up: Guess I will do what I can to calibrate this fucking Hanna and then look into one that does not suck. Never heard of Oakton before?

Nippie, made it back to the garden to check the temps and I'm looking at 68. I did a rez change (was due anyway) and calibrated my pen so we will see. The new growth does not look bad.
