I am really looking forward to starting my next grow. I have done 3 so far from start to finish, seed to finished product. My first was with fluorescent lights. It worked, but not well. I got some good stuff (just as good or better than any I have had), but it was really airy with no compact buds at all. I got maybe 3/4oz. out of 5 plants. My second was with a cheap 400w hps with a wing reflector. Heat was a big problem but the buds did better, still very loose and airy. I finally droped an entire tax refund on some good equipment last year. 400w Lumatek ballast w/ Lumenaire reflector. I converted a 4'x5' space in my home w/ ducting, lighting mounts, exhaust vents, etc. I also got 2 waterfarms but I still havn't got the courage to try a hydro grow yet. The last grow (7 plants) with the above setup was obviously the best. Still not the dense packed buds I am looking for but way better than the others. I also still have a problem with stretching. Last grow was almost unmanageable (I had to tie and bend almost all of the plants to keep them away from the glass on the reflector) Still only got 2 1/2oz. out of all the trouble. I am starting a new grow soon, and I guess I am looking for someone (or a few someones) to kind of 'coach' me throuigh the process. Every time that I have a problem, question, new developement that needs addressed I am forced to find it in a book. There are a lot of great books out there, but none of them covers the complete scope of a grow. I think that I am beyond the 'book learning' stage and would love to have one or two peole that could help me out. I am still a little freaked out about posting pics and even posting to threads on here (I am in a state the does not look highly on MJ for recreation or med. use at all), but my medical situation is leading me to the conclusion that this is my best course of action at the present time. If there are some of you out there who would be willing to work with me, and maybe go a little further than most would to convince me that you are safe to communicate with then I would be greatfull. I am willing to share pics (I need to share in order to get better) of the grow, setup, plants with problems, etc. with the right people. I have enough problems with my medical predicament and I don't need to see my ass go to jail just because I am trying to better my life a little. I have a good base knowledge and more experience than most others I feel safe to talk about this stuff with. What I need is good, solid, experienced, serious growers to help me out...I would really appreciate any help or advice any of you have. for the long post (and there is probably a thread better suited on here for this rant) and I look forward to hearing from you.
Your situation sounds a bit like mine. I've been growing for MANY years, but like you am not yielding what I think I should. I have a setup similar to yours, 400-w HPS, and live in a very mj unfriendly state. But I don't worry about posting info or pictures. Just make sure there is no identifying meta data on your picts, and if you are overly paranoid like me, access the site through a proxy so there is no record of communications between GK and your computer. However I think most people don't even worry that much about it. I frankly doubt the DEA or any LEO really cares about a small hobby grow. The amount of effort (warrants, subpoenas, court orders) required to track down a hobby grower based on pictures posted here is likely not worth it to cops who want to make easy drug busts. Of course anything is possible. And if you are a big-time commercial grower, you should definitely stay away from forums like GK.
