The water near my sight is from a shallow canal (2-3'max deep) stemming off a river. The canal is covered with pine needles, looks like pine needle soup and the ground surface leading into the canal is pine needle bedding. Acidic ph?... That's what I assumed till I took a sample, ph=8. How the hell? Does anyone have any knowledge with this? FYI, the native soil in this part of the country is mosty acidic.
chemical dumping??? lol not an aquacolologist, or a groundacologist for that matter, but i think that the ph would be relatively steady in constantly running water from the same source especially a river, leading me to think it comes from more alkaline source(es) what kinda land does the river come from? i'll have to check what the rivers are round here...just for the sake of pete...very interesting Happy Growin'
The water in the canal is not visibly flowing, so if it's from the river then the ph must be super high there. Will test it in the future. The river begins in a swamp and ends in the ocean. Goes through harwood, pine, and cypress swamps/forests. Chemical dumping is something I would kill someone for, the river has had pesticide contamination from the nearby feilds.
