The loons of the Westboro Baptist church announced plans to picket the funerals of all the victims of the recent AZ, shooting, including the funeral of a 9 year old girl.

the issue has been addressed before, and based on our freedom of speech laws, they have the right to do as they want. they are never on the property, and they never touch or harm anyone, so legally, they're not doing anything wrong. Morally, that's a different story.


I'm a strong supporter of freedom of speech. I don't like what they do, but they are supported by a law that lets me talk shit on Mormons and whatnot. As a strongly opinionated person, I would be very pissed if they took away my right to free speech.

one of thew few good things bush did as president was declare anyone protesting/picketing the funeral of a military service verteran would be considered an enemy combatant. Then NObama decides that "enemy combatant" is politically incorrect or some horse shit like that.


Freedom of speech is all well and good. But when you're being a dick at a funeral.. a fucking FUNERAL, of all places, then you stepped outside of te realm of "free speech" and into the realm of needing the living shit beaten out of you. No harm? Like Hell, most people have SOMEONE who loves them, and when you go doing crap like protesting their funeral, you are inflicting mental and emotional harm. It's not physical, but it's still harmful, and probably the most disrespectful thing one person could do to another person.


Even if it was a multiple rapist and murderer, I wouldn't protest their funeral. Even shitbags have family and just because the deceased may be a shit bag, does not mean their family is, and therefore gives NOBODY the right to pull a jackass move like protesting their funeral.


And hell, the mourners at the funeral should have full legal authority to gang-beat the fucking snot out of those pricks, and one of them dies due to the beating, tough shit, it serves them right. Like, walking into the middle of the freeway during rush hour... bad fucking idea. Thing is, I'm sure these dirtbags will bring children to teach them the same kind of obtrusive behavior.

 

I agree that what these people do is irreprehensible, but freedom of speech is a trick matter. I mean it is safe to say that 99.5% of Americans would agree these people need to be curb stomped to shut up their rhetoric, but if you start to limit certain speech, where do we draw the line? If you open pandoras box on limiting speech with what everyone agrees, where do they stop? Just food for thought.

 

They are crazy people, complete nut jobs. They have the right to spew garbage and you have the right to ignore said garbage. Nothing more nothing less. As far as the protesting of funerals, well that is a touchy subject. I don't think it's right to subject the families to more pain and trauma, but then again I don't like the idea of living in a country where you are only allowed to speak your mind sometimes when the powers that be deem it appropriate.

I agree with all above, but with my freedom of speech i say this.... Id kick the living shit outta them if they were picketing at one of my Family, Friend, or friends friends funeral. Now thats free speech.....

I agree with you Ras. As much as I hate these pricks, I live with it because I'd rather live in a country where one does have that freedom, than in a country where the clothes I wear and the way I talk is controlled.
