I've got some Ak finishing up on the tables. Kinda waiting on the trimmer to come in to chop them.

But, I went ahead and cut 2 tops. One was flowered by a 600w hps and the other by a 240w LED(not the new Lumigrow). They grew in the same room with the same temps and same CO2 levels. Both were fed from the same reservoir so the nutes were the same. Same strain and both at day 52 and the main cola of each plant.

See if you can tell which is which.

So, which do you think is LED and which is HPS?

I looked at all three closely and if I had to guess it would be #3 It does not look quit as solid as the first two.

Each pic has the two buds side by side. Just 3 different views, one is on the left and the other on the right. 3rd pic just not trimmed up tight yet.

Is it HPS left bud or right bud?

My guess is HPS bud on Left.

Judging by what I've read about led's, the one on the left.

I WANT to say left is LED. But going to say right Just since is 240w vs 600 hps. I would think the LED would need the extra 60w. Though either way I wouldn't be upset with the LED even if it is the one on the right.

I'll be the tie breaker with a vote of HPS on the left. :passsit:

FF, you win. So I'll buy me something with that $20 bill and dedicate to you dude.

But I'll be the first to say that this was not a fair comparison of HPS and LED at all. So nobody use this to decide which to use.

The 600w HPS had a brand new Hortilux bulb(which will need replaced in a year) so it is working at peak now.

The LED was a HTG 240w, 7 band, inexpensive unit designed for growing start to finish. It just didn't have enough red output to do the flowering job of the other units in Skunky's and DXE's grows.

Other than size, the tops were the same. I took an equal size bud off of each and gave them a close exam with the loop and couldn't tell the difference.

I was happy with the LED bud, don't get me wrong. But I did learn not to just run out to HTG, or wherever, and buy the cheapest "dollar per watt" unit you can find. Go with the proven names with the spectrum designed for your needs and spend a few bucks extra. The last light I bought was LED and the next will be as well.

Damn it!! I looked at the buds close and got all HPS on the left and then you go and spoil it by giving the answer. Well at least I know I was right.

So you used this light? In that case that just shows LEDs can compete. Imo it kicked the hps ass this round. That light is not 240w. Probably around 160-180w at the plug. So not just under half the wattage of the hps as I initially thought, that's under 1/3 of the wattage. Actually well under since a 600hps pulls closer to 700w at the wall.

Sorry man, I just wanted to make sure people didn't use it as a head to head comparison and see the LED, in general, as inferior. That 240w unit couldn't produce like the 600 hps, but I'm thinking my new 325s are going to make a much better showing. We,ll see in a couple months!!

One thing I didn't mention was that the LED flowered 2 plants and the HPS flowered 4. Something to consider as well.

But with the 2 grows I used that LED it's paid for itself a few times over. The first was an area with no AC or CO2. Though the buds weren't nearly as big as this time, they were as hard as golf balls and heavy for their size. I was happy.
