I feel like an animal. I was LSTing this and then I stopped. Then I LSTed it some more. Then I stopped. Then I got too rough with it. WHOOPS. (nevermind the catapiller holes, it has been corrected) What's the best thing to do here? This plant is a locally known strain and really distinctive so I'd like to save it somehow. Should I just take cuttings and trash it? Or is there a way to save it?
haha, ARE YOU SERIOUS about the duct tape?!!! Cause I'll try it!!! That's how desparate I am to save this! lol All kidding aside, I didn't realize how bad the break was till I just posted the pic. Sucks. I think I'm gonna go the cutting route.
I've used duct tape before with varying results. IMO, if you've damaged enough of the stem, I don't think anything will save it. Keeping you RH as high as possibile will help to prevent transpiration, hopefully long enough for the stem to rebuild. Good luck with it. Are there any cloneable branches left on it to take so it's not a total loss? edit: Just reread your post - if you can take cuttings, I would while you still have the chance. Not to be pessimistic, but I don't like the odds of that surviving.
I'd use electrical tape instead of duct tape. Duct tape sucks. If it hasn't been that way for very long, tape it up, it may survive.
I have used the "green florist tape" on stems before with success but maybe the electrical would hold better?? Just have to be careful when you do it and I kinda make a splint with the tape if it is heavy where the break is. Good luck!!!
I've used duct tape and Scotch tape. With dt, you can get a good grip on 'the wound'. If you can make a nice, tight meeting, stem-to-stem, you have a chance at surviving. I used st on a branch recently. I was too careless ranking yellowing leave's and snapped a branch.The branch did list, about 45 degree's, but with about 2 1/2-3 wks. to go, it finished just as well as the rest of the plant. I'd take cutting's and definitely try any kind of tape before ditching her. Good Luck
I have to agree with the first poster, while I don't have a lot of experience with MJ I do have a degree in horticulture and we would use duct tape for fixing splits.:roulette:
Take a popsiclestick or any stick that is close to the same diameter of your plant stem, and make a splint for it.. U would be surprised by how easily a Mj plant will heal itself.. I have had some stems nearly broken in half, and holding on by 1-2 veins, and the top still grew.. It was hanging by a thread but still putting off new green growth.. Good luck man.. GFam
i would try fixing it by using electrical tape then make a splint kinda thing and tape it to it to try to keep it straight then take a few cuttings while you can and hope for the best:bongin:
It doesnt seem too bad, if the xylem and phloem are still in tact it should survive. like someone said before cannabis is a very hardy plant, they don't call it weed for nothin.
wow that does look kinda bad. if u were lsting it then u should have some good clone spots i would just take a few of those then tape her up. not saying that it wont survive but this way u have a better chance at keeping it goin. plus maybe ull get lucky and all of em will survive giving u more plants :thumbsup:
Before my ADD kicked in and I forgot about this one for awhile. I "Ron Popeiled" it. Set it and forget it. Here's how it healed. Pretty bad break. Just wrapped it up with copper wire. Stronger than it was before. Cool.
just wondering since problem solved but how long did u wait to fix it? cus i know if cutting clones ur suppose to put them in water immediately because they close up the wound with this sap that hardens within 30 secs or more(look at ur razor blade after u cut a branch off),which makes them take longer to clone if they do root depending on how long exposed to air... ne ways ya just wondering cus it sounds like u waited for advice and im surprised it survived, good work, lol i did something similar but dumber i LSTED my outdoor plants and when i went to check the next time i forgot lol trip over the string ripping the main top off of one of the big ones, man did i feel stupid,got it on vid too!but i came back later and it is fine will make my own thread for my outdoor this weekend,gotta move got caught for my dwc setup... any1 tell me how to gibe rep points i owe alot out...?
honestly that one looks like a total loss. If you can get some clones off of it, that would probably be your best bet.
WRONG. However I do have clones from her. I tied it together and she lives like a champ. Here it is today. Should be a nice cola or 2 for absolute negligence.
