spink that's gross! quote from a movie??? yep, watermelons, when grown normally, will run ALL OVER the place. usually won't bother the rest of your garden if you just let them go, but as they start flowering, just be mindful where the melons start to grow so you don't step on them..... i am using raised plant beds this year as well, i say :321fu: weeding, sux ballz!!!! this way you use verm/peat/compost, & there's no weed seeds/grass, and it's way easy to pull if they get in there. looks cool too, although, herb, :not-worthy: i love your setup. i've read many of your posts, and i think i envy your lifestyle altogether!!! i wish i was in a time/acreage position to do the things you've done and the setups you have!!! i just threw in some potatoes, and got my strawberries going. going 100% organic seeds too - carrots, corn, lots of peppers, cukes, beans, lettuce, broccoli, and a couple of experimental ones too. bought 2 blackberry bushes, keep fingers crossed, they're not super cold hardy here. my big show in my garden is always my tomatoes. i have usually about 18 plants, and i've gotten over 150# from them one year. i top them off around 6 feet as well, and that focuses the energy down into the existing fruits. yum. i can smell them already, the way your fingers smell like the leaves after you prune them.... peace GTWT :XXhippylove:
lol! Yeah it is, a quote from Pulp Fiction, when Jules and Vince are eating breakfast at the diner after the "Bonnie Incident." :thumbs-up:
Should be planting everything within the next week if this weather will break. My home made green house Corn peppers tomatos 3 different kinds of cucumbers sugar snap peas and cantilope sugar snap peas corn as of today. This is my garden in mid june last year. The fat stalk at the bottom is my sun flower. It got to be 16ft with a 2.5ft dim on the sunflower its self. Its crazy what good compost, and a bag or two of peat does for plants
I like most squirrels but the ground squirrels are just nasty creatures. They aren't anything like the squirrels you find that live in trees. They multiply like rabbits and fuck up the ground with their holes big time! Then they come looking for MY food.....that's a no no! I haven't started killing them yet, but there may come a day when I have to out of need. For now I'll try my best to keep the buggers at bay, but if it's war they want...then it's war they shall have. BTW...my neighbor and future father in law kills the bastards with a shotgun. Even after all those he's killed we still have an infestation. The little bastards aren't cute and cuddly Hank....trust me on that.
