Locally You can check local marine supply stores to see if they carry auto fire extinguishers to avoid the shipping and hazmat fees.
Has anyone purchased one of these yet? It seems like the cheapest mail order including shipping is around $200.
The extinguisher trigger temperature is 79ºC (174ºF) You can plug the lighting into a temp sensor switch so it cuts off before the room gets too hot http://www.hhydro.com/cgi-bin/hhydro/XHH0116.html They cost less on E-Bay
I found an inexpensive unit... http://www.amazon.com/Flame-Defender-FLAME-DEFENDER-2KG/dp/B0030KM0V4 At that price there's no reason to put it off any longer. Fork out the $60 to protect your home, life and freedom. I just ordered one Video of extinguishers in action...
Right on guys! Thanks for all the awesome ideas for additional safety. I'll be picking up one or two of these "over-temp" outlets and a portable extinguisher, in the very near future. Thanks for sharing these items with us, Very handy!
Look at the Amazon "Customers Who Bought Related Items Also Bought" section... Marijuana Horticulture: The Indoor/Outdoor Medical Grower's Bible (Paperback) I ordered from one of the many online gardening stores that carry the Flame Defender brand.
My local hydro shop carries the flame defenders, and actually match the prices I have seen online. I will most likely be picking up 1 or 2 after my little scare with the HTG ballast last week
Let there (not) be fire Here's the installed extinguisher... I'd prefer it to be above the cabs but it's a lot better than no protection at all.
