Hey Ras, - Why not just add a couple rubbermaid tubs under the tables as the ressy's, and use your 100 gal. ressy for just plain old RO water? YOu can then top off the smaller table ressy's with no effort and no waiting. Plus you wont waste nutes.

They don't hold enough water to properly flood the table. I had bought some 50 gal. Rubbermade ToughTotes and they also can't hold up top the pressure of the water inside. The sides bow out and water will start spilling at about 1/2 full. Even with the pots in the table it takes a good amount of water to flood it a few inches deep. I am flooding in 9 minutes and draining in about 10. It takes about 65 gal. of water to flood the table and the pump needs to stay submerged in order to keep pumping so that puts me at around 80 gal. min. These tables are big and hold a lot of water. If I had 4'x4' tables I could get away with smaller resy but I just don't understand how I can use small totes as a res. I must be missing something......:icon_scratch:

 

I got ya. I had thought of that earlier today. That is, how much water it takes to flood a 4x8 tray. Seems like they'd make a small sump in those big ressys just for the pump. Sure would save the grower a lot of money down the road. Maybe you can load your table with tupperware trays filled with bricks in the empty areas to take up space you don't need to flood.

Yeah my next run I will be putting more plants into the table than this time and that alone will decrease the volume of water I need. Today I tested it with 80 gal. in the res. It's plenty to flood it all the way to the overflow. It seems that the pump will pump down to about 1 1/2" of water. So that helps that I don't have to fully fill the res with all 100 gal. If I gotta dump the nutes every week then that's what I'll do. Hopefully once I get it dialed in the rewards will be greater than the cost of operation.

Dude, how fucking deep are you flooding? Because seriously, it shouldn't take that much water.

 

If I measure from the level where the pots are sitting, I am flooding 3" deep. If I measure from the very bottom of the channels in the table, I am flooding 4" deep. It only goes about 1/3-1/2 way up the pot. I'm getting hella frustrted right now with this. I was told by several people that you NEED a minimum of 70 gal. res for a 4'x8' table. I got 100 gal. res because they were cheaper (I got a deal) I won't be filling it all the way up, just to about 70 or 80 gal. Even if I had a couple totes instead of a resy (which I am not gonna not use these resy after spending a couple hundred $$ on them) It's not too much difference between 60 or 80 gal. right? I'm okay with that. The resy at this point is a minor issue. My main issue now is just utilizing the formula properly. I have been getting so much conflicting info pertaining to resy size in relation to the the table size. I have seen with my own eyes how much water it takes to fill the table. It has decreased how much is needed once I put my pots in the table but still takes a significant amount of water. IF I filled the table with hydroton and planted rock wool cubes directly into the hydroton it would definitely take less water to flood the table but I don't want to go with that method. I want to utilize these smart pots. It will be faster and easier clean up I think. Anyway this is what I have to work with.
