I have some problem with that definition as it pertains to Natural unaltered plant substances. The word "Drug" as it pertains to things like Crack, heroine, Methamphetamine, etc. inspire thoughts of hard narcotics with proven and extremely detrimental effects on people. Things like Caffeine, Ganja, Chocolate, those are also by definition "Drugs" However saying that they are on par with the afore mentioned chemically altered substances is in my opinion asinine. Marijuana is a drug as in it alters body chemistry. It has a ton of uses and truly is a versatile plant. When used properly it can do great things for a user. However like anything that can be abused it has negative consequences as well. I believe this is the grounded argument that proponents should use. The argument that it is completely harmless makes us look ignorant. This may not be what stoners want to hear but it's simply the facts. Please use your drug of choice responsibly.
I never claimed it was harmless. Caffeine can be bad for you too. But neither one is something that IMO should be lumped into one big pile of "Drugs" As I said I understand the definition of the word. I however have issue with it's broad usage. The word carries with it a negative connotation that I don't think MJ deserves. Ganja is sacred and should of course be respected and treated as something sacred should be. Not to be abused and mistreated. I agree that Mj proponents that claim it is 100% harmless are not helping our cause. But any rational person I have talked to would agree with me that MJ and Coacaine for example don't belong in the same classification.
Ras my comment wasn't directed at you in particular. It was just something I wanted to get out there. I completely agree that marijuana should be reclassified. Actually I'm in favor of all drugs being legalized for a multitude of grounded reasons. One of the biggest being taking away money and power from cartels and gangs. On the Mr. Sheen subject I feel any American adult should be able to do whatever they want as long as they are not physically or financially hurting someone else.
That depends. Marijuana is not physically addictive as cocaine is, but marijuana DOES contain mind/mood-altering substances and tetrahydracannabinol(poor spelling) IS a narcotic substance. People have OD'd and died from cocaine use, but not from marijuana, so in THAT light, no they don't belong in the same category, but unfortunately they CAN be categorized alike, and they CAN be categorized differently. Cocaine was once used as a medication, then it was decided to be more bad for you than good, but before that happened, it was considered a miracle drug. Are cocaine and marijuana in the same class of drugs? No. Why? Because cocaine is processed to be the drug it is, marijuana is not, it is simply dried and smoked... unless ya wanna get anal retentive and consider the breakdown of the THC for absorption into the bloodstream a "process".. but seriously, they're not in the same CLASS. As far as narcotics go, however, they CAN be categorized together as "party drugs", mood enhancers and so forth, but considering the effects that each have on the human body and mind, they are mostly different except that they make you feel good and that's too vague to really lump them together. So... I'm freaking exhausted and uh, sorry for rambling. But Ras, I agree, they're not the same, and not really even similar, either.
Shadow the definition of narcotics is a drug derived from the opium poppy. The Feds use the term narcotic to further their own ambitions (rhetoric). Also marijuana is not physically addictive. It is psychologically addictive though.
?????????? I really don't get it with all the Charlie Sheen hoopla all of a sudden. He's a doper. Is that a fucking suprise all of a sudden? Charlie Sheen is known to say some REAL shit if you catch him off guard sometimes. I don't think that's a new behavior for this guy either. I mean really what did he do? He pissed off his producers by talking about them and the network that his show is on pulled it for the rest of the season. I heard some clips but I haven't heard the entire interview or interviews that are supposed to be getting all this attention so I'm confused as to what the big fucking deal is. I agree--he'll be back on coke or crack soon. But I think there's more going on with him. I think besides the drug issue, the guy's got some genuine mental illness stuff. He has that "god-like" thing manic folks are famous for--The belief he's totally on top of his Game ande and tuned in to some Greater Truth.... You know, it's possible he has been self-medicating with alcohol to bring him down from the manic highs and coke to bring him UP from the depressions for years. It could be that this temporary "sobreity" has simply allowed his under mental illness to show. He's lost his job, is about to lose his kids, it's unlikely anybody else will hire him while he's acting niuts....yet he still claims he's "Winning". That's....mania.
