Been running those with the same screens for years, you paid to much...go to Depot or Lowes at the end of the season and they are .99 :thumbs-up:
FML. :BangHead::BangHead::BangHead: So basically go right now? Surprised K-Mart wouldn't be similar in price to Lowes and HD. - Well how do you like them then? Find them manageable? You flip to flower when you fill your bucket SCROG up? I was thinking of putting my screen part about 16"-18" above the perlite, fill the SCROG, and move them to flower under the 1K. Lets hope so! asssit:
Veg t Deployed! Veg tent finally deployed today! After a few hours of work I got everything straightened up. My Cheese got like 2 days to go, so she can just stay in there, same light schedule. Every bucket will have an individual SCROG like the one in the back corner. I plan on keeping them 16"-18", possibly shorter depending on how they turn out. Running them under a HTG 400W MH bulb. From the looks of this Cheese they branch out a bit but not much, growing a similar strain (Exodus Cheese) but none auto's. If I veg that long can I expect 4ft plants? Anywho, on to the pics. And the Cheese: (Down in 2 days) So now what they are "15" days old and I have not put any liquid in the perlite since I rinsed it over a week ago, don't be fooled though that perlite was still very wet/moist. I have already gave the seedlings a very small amount of nutes for the past few days, which they have responded well. Do I just start the UseLess schedule now and mix for one gallon per plant? That's what common sense is telling me... I remember someone saying that if I cut the hole 2" from the bottom the res should hold exactly 1 gallon of nutrient solution. True?
Ok, now relax. The seedlings look good. They will take a few day to reach down to res, or were the roots long enough? Just water with plain water for a couple days. Pour it slowly down the stem. Now is the time to figure out how much water the res holds. If you think it holds a gallon, test your theroy. The test is simple, I'll wait while you get something to write with, pour a gallon of water in, see if any comes out. Knowing will save you time and nutes. Enjoy your harvest. Peace.....
You can expect plants from 24-36 inches, depending on strain, if you flower at 16-18 inches. Some 14+ week sativas will easily go 4 feet at 12/12 from seedling. But most hybrids will run close to the above rule of thumb. Using a trellis (the screen on your buckets) alters that quite a bit toward the lower side. Haven't you guys told him the stuff on top of the perlite is algae?
In working the opposite of most I hung my hoods to the tippy top if my tent and then I'm going to elevate my plants off the ground to adjust the light . Same thing different way
What Res said. :redbong: The brown stuff is algae. As the plants get bigger and fill out and block the light most of the algae will dissapear. There may be some spots of it on the service but nothing to worry about. MGJs
If people still have them out, they should be on sale right now...also it never hurts to ask for a discount there as it saves places from having to pack it up and store it which costs money. I would push it down all the way to the bottom of the bucket to provide the support you are looking for. You don't want it wobbly once you get weight from the buds. My advice to you since you have the ability is to let the screen fill about 50-75% up then flip. That way you are leaving room for the stretch and keeping an even canopy height. You want to keep the stretch tied down also if possible that gives you the nice even level canopy and will spit out nice buds all over. Let the plant come through the top of the screen and tie down from the top...don't weave it, zip ties work well for this and you can buy a canister of them from Lowes/Depot for pretty cheap. You DON'T tie them down like you are torturing them...leave a little room so you can cut the zip ties at harvest and so the branch has room to thickening up during veg. Also don't ever force the branches. I've noticed that if you use a larger zip tie and just start it to the first few clicks, you can tightening it up over the next few days WITHOUT breaking the branch or forcing anything. You can actually make the growing tip wrap around the the screen like a circle if it stretches enough, that's why you don't wait until the scrog is full. You need to leave a little open screen to fill in with the stretch. Once the screen is filled, then cut out anything that didn't hit the screen...all the undergrowth can go at this point. You can see the screens in this shot
Cool man! The roots seemed long enough, I just couldn't a dig deep enough hole before the perlite fell back into it. I got them pretty far down though. The gallon thing wasn't my theory, I just remember someone on here saying that it held exactly a gallon. I'll water for a few days like you suggested, but is there any way to know when the tap root actually even hits the res? And I'll do your test to see how much mine holds. Cool. Thanks for the info. Now I guess I will veg a bit longer then. xD Possibly to 24"-26"? I'm looking for like 4ft tall plants. How does use the trellis alter anything? Should I go without them? And no, no one told me it was algae, it hasn't came back since I removed it. Cool. Thank you! Ya I'll check out to see if I can get some on sale. Would you mind posting a full pic of one of your buckets with the trellis filled? It all makes sense what your saying about leaving room for flower stretch, but what did throw me off is cutting everything under the trellis while flowering. I thought there was no snip snip during flower? So I should lower my trellis now? and let the plants grow up through it, and just move it up with the plant as it grows? Did I understand that correctly? The SCROG I have going now, I weaved everything through the SCROG. =/ Does using zip ties just make it easier to harvest? Those are some gourgeous plants you have there.
Going to have to find some pix that better answer you question, or take some tonight but here you go also the snipping in flower is done in the first week or two, no harm is done, actually this may be good for you as you can learn to clone with the cuttings. But this is what they look like about week 4ish Notice you can see what I trimmed off, doesn't get any light anyways....everything is a shadow under there
Um, with the trellis you are diverting vertical growth to horizontal which allows more even bud development and a shorter more manageable plant. When using any kind of trellising or scrog you should be concentrating more on root mass and bud sites and less on overall height. It's easily possible to keep a huge 30"-36"" bush that yields well. :redbong: Trimming for trellis or scrog growing requires it's own set of rules. Any branching trapped under the canopy goes. I'm usually snipping small unproductive fresh shoots well into week four of flower.
No that's fine, that pic answered my question. Do did you gradually raise your trellis as your plants grew? And wow, my plants are in week 4 now and look nothing like that. Just tons of pre-flowers. I think the strech just finished in the flower tent. Haven't noticed any more vertical growth except for the Critical Jack that was giving me problems. After I opened her up and brought her shoots up and zipped tied them they all started stretching. My SCROG is not even though =/ The Blue Dream is such a beast it's just dominating the tent. Well since you do that. Should I cut everything below the SCROG out now in my flower tent? Or just shoots that will never make it. I have been snipping leaves here and there that block bud sites, that's about it. And I would rather have a 4ft plant that yeilds even more! xD
Okay, just did my first watering in the 5 gallon buckets. So the buckets, most just take 1/2 gallon, and 1 or 2 of the others will take up to 3/4 gallons. When should I introduce nutrients in hempy?
immediately there is nothiong in the medium for the plants to live on.... Perlite is inert and provides nothing for the plants. All they have to eat is what you give them
Seedlings don't need nutes if that's what you asking, wait for them to tell you, worse case wait 2-3 weeks after and start at week 1... 50% strength nutes can and do kill seedlings
