stoned driving is as bad as drunk driving. Couple of puffs you're prob good same as a drink with dinner, but you can't be smashed behind the wheel

We also have script drug laws here, some say on the container and almost all the docs will tell you if they give you a pain killer that you cannot drive on it. I don't know if that's countrywide, but here in my state it's the norm....and only fair

Of course intoxication behind the wheel is a valid topic of concern. There are people I have known that I would not want to be a passenger in their car if they have been smoking ganja. Lightweights can't hang. Luckily most of the people I know that can't drive when high, know that they can't drive high and don't drive.

Personally though I can smoke the whole time I'm on a road trip and not have any issues. I'm a calm, collected and attentive driver as long as I'm medicated. If I for some reason had to drive without it I'm pretty sure I would be tense, aggravated and anxious. Of course that has to do with the fact that I spend every waking moment and some non waking moments completely high. I smoke all day, every day and sometimes eat ganja food before bed. Regardless of the type of test they are administering my THC levels will be off the charts whether I smoked in the immediate time frame or not.

As a medical patient there should be some type of clause to protect people like me.

uhhh no...should people prescribed 80 mg of oxycoton a day be able to drive?

Standard sobriety test should catch most cases, and prob should be the standard IMHO

I agree with what Res said. Its something i would see as for my own protection from a trial. In saying that though i know guys that actually drive BETTER when stoned, more focused and attentive cos they get para which makes them concentrate on the road instead of using their phone to text while driving. Either way if someone said to any of us 10 years ago - " yeah we will start making weed legal but the flipside is you have to pay tax on it and you cant drive while high",im sure we would all pretty much have signed up for that deal. Progress always has drawbacks of some kind:jj:

No there shouldn't. If a drug intoxicates to the point of diminished capacity when used as prescribed you're not supposed to drive. If you do otherwise that's a risk you choose to take. With drunks there's the same issue. The cat who's been pounding a fifth a day for 20 years can probably drive pretty well when above the legal limit. A 21 year old girl on a bender can barely walk at .10. Both are impaired.

Circumstances are different for a medical patient that uses the amount that I do. Also the majority of people I know that smoke are able to drive just fine after smoking ganja. It's a minority that have issues of intoxication that impairs driving ability. Drunks are completely different and it affects the brain and decision making centers completely differently and therefore IMO you're all comparing apples to oranges.

Occasional recreational users would naturally be more impaired.

I dunno man, I don't know all the answers and I'm no doctor or scientist or even an expert of any kind pertaining to this topic. These are just my personal opinions and feelings on the matter as I see it and how it would affect me.

    I can see it now.

Cop; "Do you smoke maryjuuuuwanna regularly?

Stoner; "Yup. Every day all day sir."

Cop; "Ok then, you're good to go. Just wanted to be sure you weren't one of those casual stoners."

And don't go giving the "I'm a med guy" crap. I'm med too and fully understand the difference. Get real man, there are compromises that need to be made and the more adult our community can be about them the better our odds at the negotiating table.
