Me too Stash. I trim a plant up before flowering, get rid of useless branching and shit....but the defoliation is a step beyond that.
 me too I still dont understand how why this would work, it seems like the plant wouldn't be able to "breathe" and if I'm not mistaking, doesn't energy get stored in the fan leaves? I asked a while ago about lollipopping and whats everyone's take on it. If you should take bud sites off and fan leaves or just leave the fans and snip the buds. I tried it both ways and found that taking the fans didn't do anything either way from the bottom. Hell the ones that I tried to leave turned yellow and died a week or two into flower. Anyways, I'm still glued, I have to see this to believe it. May I suggest two future forum sections..."Mythbusters" and "product testing"
take them off Ive been doing this for a couple of years now, after a friend showed me .What ive seen is a big improvement. Buds all the way the way down the stem are big and full compared to just large buds on the tops and smaller looser buds down below the canopy.Yeild weight has improved by a least 15%.The plants seem to thrive,it usually take a few days to a week for them to take off but once they do,buds are forming everywhere, with no adverse affects.Indoors the plants are so well fed and light is so strong ,that i dont think they need so many leaves .I have tried taking the leaves before starting flowering and sometimes after about two weeks of change over when buds are just starting to form, the later i have found to be the best.:bong-2:
Watching this one on small plants this might be a option but I am gonna go with what useless said because I grow bushes this would not be a option. Curious how this turns out. t6
That may be the key. Defoliating large plants or commercial crops would be too labor intensive anyway.
Guys, I've never done a side by side comparison grow before. Hell I could prove myself wrong. :laughing7: I do agree doing this on large outdoor plants would be alot of work. I would like to see someone do that same thing with two outdoor plants. The would most likely have to defoliate one plant of all the fan leaves about 2 weeks before the out door flowering begins, or do two large indoor plants and do the same thing. Would be interesting. Any takers? I'm looking forward to the final outcome myself. :redbong::redbong:
If I had another HPS, I'd consider it. Got my 3x4 room filled atm. That'll be something I try once I get the 8x4 tent. Gotta get two of the same plants, too. I've only been cloning 1 of each strain atm, to keep my count in check.
I read that whole Fucken thread over there at IC. Lately its been a circle jerk. But it got me wondering enough 5 weeks ago to start some trees. I have 4 different strains; Medi, Chocolpe, G-13 Kush, and Enigma. Any way clones started and 1 week plucked, week 2 plucked, week 3 plucked, etc...week 5- last week. I left them alone. The amount of bud sites are unreal! I am debating on cleaning anything up at the core. But since I have vertical and overhead lighting I might leave them. I got to trim the fans that are covering the sites or I feel my experiment is worthless. My goal was not only to see if this technique would work for me but to hit my personal goal of 4# out 6 plants. Set backs are some growth is slower. My normal at week 5 veg is about 36" tall and 24" wide. Some are 36" wide and only 24"-30" tall. BUt I got a shit more vertical branches. And the roots are fucken huge. Week 3 pic and root; before defo. After Week 4 before after defo Week 5 I only have before shot
I'll get a few more pics and some of the roots if you guys want to see them? I hope the hell mine turn out as good as Mr GreeJeans at week 3.
everytime I see another pic of the Lemonberry, I slap myself for not buying some while they were still available. Stunning buds MrG!
I would say there's too many variables to be conclusive Besides at different plants like different heights different foods. . Some of them don't like to have those leaves picked off some do. Just like DNA Genetic said with the LA Confidential mid late flower pull off the fan leaves expescially the 1 shading buds. And what about inside versus outside. I just do not see you haven't anywhere near the same yield outside if you pull them leaves off during veg. They are what fuels the size of the overall plant. Now I can see that working inside where you have limited lights and you're closer to the lights in everythings cramped together.
I wish I wasn't having problems uploading my photos I have a Bude that has more weight on it then that entire Plant off 1 of my outdoors this year and it looks just as frosty. Not saying your stuff doesn't look good I just grow bigger plants than a foot half tall. And if you're growing under 1000 watt light your plans for about half as big as they need to be I mean mine are usually at least 4 feet high when I switch them. Last time I grew plant that short it was under 3 400 watt lights. And it was full of bugs the size of 4 cell mag lights
I grow Mad shack onder a 600 watt and about 2.5 ft wide by just under 3 feet at the top of the plant and I will consistantly get 5 to 6 ounces dried off the plant.
