Get LED's out of your head! I couldn't imagine flowering under CFL's, let alone LED's :lmao:

RR said what I wanted to , as I was reading thru. The cash you put out now (and continuously) will come back, plus :thumbs-up:

I didn't hear anyone say anything re: wattage.

    If I had a 12'x12' room (esp. basement :dog-nana: ), I'd throw 2 1000's in; other wise, split the room and but 2 600's :thumbs-up:

Yup, and it took 7 tries for him to learn enough about how to scrog and develop his lights to the point of getting the results most of us running simple HID get in the first or second go round. That's a ton of wasted time, effort and lost buddage.

Don't let these guys scare you on cost. If you want 6+ plants a 400-600w HID will be perfectly adequate.

400-600w HPS Ballast reflector bulb yoyo package should run $140-$280 delivered.

    exhaust fan $60-120

    Ducting-$25

    Fan for circulation $15

    Pots-$25

    Dirt- $25

Nutrients- $25-$100 depending on how you run. The stuff I use costs about $60 to get set up and will last many many gardens.

Ph tester- $5 for a cheap liquid tester or $70 for a pen

Seeds/clones-$30-$150. I'd go with something easy in the $60 to start. you want good but not expensive while you're learning.

So a good beginner benchmark for cost of a small 6-10 plant grow is $380-$720. For that you should yield between 5-8 oz per harvest initially.

    thanks again fellas.

i'm not set on led's just wanted to know if you had seen that test. i saw one where one of the pot guru's of old did a side by side and it ended up being longer with less bud as a result.

then i found the other one i posted earlier.

now i must give up for today and smoke some crappy low grade to help get rid of my headache from reading all day.:bong-2:

MrAstro and RR said it true, my friend. For what I paid fopr that stupid UFO, I coulda bought everything I needed for a REAL grow. But NOOOOOO, I LISTENED to the HYPE about the "wonder" of the LED, how it "Has the power of a 600w HPS at a fraction of the energy!". What a load...

You can either get yourself a real light and grow some real weed or keep screwing around wasting time and money. LOTS of money. In the end, you'll wish you had just gone for the real deal in the first place, LOL. But...that LED does make a real cute night light, all pink and glow-y.

my .02. I used to try floro's/ CFL's and stuff, and all I got was stretched out, limp, hung over dead seedlings. Not to say it CAN'T be done, people do it with success..

But I bought a 400W switchable MH/HPS lamp/ballast Sunburst combo on ebay for under 200$(free shipping!!) and it worked outstandlingly well. Paid less than 20$ for some Neptune's Harvest fish/seaweed emulsions and within 9 weeks, had smokeable bud that was smooth and good quality high.

Between electricity, the HID lamp, and everything else, I produced enough bud to outweigh the price of supplies, and it was my first harvest indoors.

I didn't even need ventilation ducts, or exaust fans. I put it in the closet, left the door cracked open about 6inches and ran a small 6$ desk fan, never exceeded about 85F.

One thing about HID though, it's very bright. "Light leaks" can be more serious than lost lumens not being absorbed by the plants. It can be downright attention grabbing. Next time I go indoors, I'm getting a tent.

i intend to split the room. plastic wrap the whole deal inside to control light leakage, and use an ionizer and charcoal filter ventilation for control of odor. i have family over all the time and dont need the hassle of someone smellin something they dont need to smell.

i also intend to start out with 6 plants and grow from there.eventually i will probably do a clone setup as well as keep a mom or two for a couple differerent strains and stop at 10 plants.i aint greedy .just want for me thats all. if i get results like you fellas are saying i may only need to do it a couple times a year. that will offset the costs of chasing the demon all over creation like i have been doing for years.

i have a hps fixture that is multi tap so i can run 240 volts at lower amps but will need to modify it for reflectivity and ventilate it.

so know i just gotta start buying supplies. i will be bugging you fine folks for advice and approval along the way as well.

hey man im on week 3 of flowering my first grow... im doing it in a closet and honestly ive spent less than $700 to date... that includes building the closet into a sealed flower room, a dual section veg area, a 400W HPS with switchable digital ballast, bulb, 6" cool tube reflector, timer, and yoyo hangers (that whole light package was $180.95 delivered from ebay) i have a 6" booster fan exhausting to my sewer drain, ad CFLs in my veg area... the CFLs are from IKEA and cost $20 bucks each plus the bulbs and produce 2000 lumens each... they ar not optimal but check out my thread... the ladies are looking fine... im running 5 plants under my 400W HPS... also built an aero cloner, seeds from the attitude, soild, pots, and pestered some nutrient companies for samples of thir nutes and now have enough General Organics comlete line to get me through several runs lol... check ebay for HID lights there great deals to be had

i have checked your thread. nice set up. my plumbing was never built to code. there was no code in my area untill about7 yrs ago. my grey water goes out to the yard and my toilet vent is only 2" so i dont think i'll be able to go that route.

i was wondering if you guys have ever used 2x4 lay in fixtures? i have 3 of them 3 tube and they are also collecting dust.i used to raise reptiles in my youth and have used full spectrum lamps for lizards and such and i think i have some old fish tank pumps some where. i dont think the tubes are that spendy.

have you fellas ever used them?

I think a beginner can pull 10+ oz from 6 plants under a 400w. Takes a little reading and learning before you jump in, but its easy doable.

Just looked at the site and it looks good. Thing is though that is micro growing using expensive lights. You'd need a separate mom for the clones and that plant is going to be a lot bigger than whats in them pics.

Not something id try out first time growing.

If you go back in the advanced section of this forum you will see a side by side comparison grow. The same person did a few. Each one will prove LED growing is a was of money and time.

LED's are limited to the size a plant can grow. Smaller plants = less weed

They are supposed to use less power. They dont. The tests showed that even with the same wattage of lights 600w of HPS grew more weed then 600w of LED.

The tests are a good read if your interested in LED's.

That's very strain dependent IMO. I just grew 8 Master Kush uder a 600 watt HPS and yielded only 5.5 ounces. The plants were healthy and the buds were super dank, but it just doesn't yield that well. I ran 6 plants mixed strains under the same light previous to that and yielded 9 ounces. There are so many factors at play, but I would say under a 400 watt HPS a beginner should realistically expect anywhere between 4-8 ounces depending on many factors.

8 square foot for 6 LST'd plants with 7 or 8 week veg and i think 10 oz is doable.

Veg time is what matters. If he's only wanting to grow enough for himself two or three times a year. 6 bigger plants will work better.

again, has anybody used 2x4 lay ins with any success. for veg only of course.

    What's a 2x4 lay in?

  16. HeadCase

I think but I'm not sure on this it's when you strap a 2X4 to your ass before you get layed so you don't fall in but don't Quote me on that-Bud

sorry .for you non electricians a 2x4 lay in is a 2x4 flourescent fixture with up to 4 tubes. mine have 3 tubes though and i have a few just collecting dust. i can line them with heavy duty aluminum foil for reflectivity and buy full spectrum tubes.is it necessary to purchase full spectrum tubes?

on another note i once was in a grow room where the owner had made a 4" pvc constantly circulating system that had holes drilled about 2' apart. he would take a baseball bat and form screen material to the end of the bat and place in rockwool and grow his plants submerged like that. he would pump water and nute solution to the higher end of the pipe set up and it would drain to the lower end and into a 8 gallon bucket where he would add his nutes and such and pump it back to the higher end.his plants would be tied at the top to stand up and were 6' tall, bushy and fat and each plant yielded gobs of bud.2 hps lamps 1000w, with reflective mylar tent.i dont think i would go that far but would like to know if ya'll had seen anything like that?

    anybody ever seen that?

i am serious about this so i want to explore all options

Them lay in are basically these right?

If you fit them with high wattage 6400k (white or daylight) bulds they will veg no problem.
