drinking the cool-aideWell - it looks like I am all in now...Upgraded my Veg tent (5x4). Replaced a 1000 watt MH with two Onyx veg fixtures.I took Lux readings before and after and my LED's are producing more light with less heat and MUCH less electric usage (1000 watts as opposed to 440 watts) /monthly_2014_04/IMG_3673.jpg.8f65364c2607a476e64a1e86e0f491e2.jpg
For a quality built and supported unit using the 10Watt Cree Chips - the price cannot be beat. The vendor is excellent to deal with as well (as you found out)
Yes very patient when I called.... Actually brought up a couple other lights on line while we chatted. I had asked about the Advanced XML Diamond series that also uses the Cree 10 w along with ref and blue 3w. He checked it as we talked. And yes for the price he quoted and the components they use... Hard to go elsewhere. The 10w LED provides a deeper penetration than the others. Still wish they added a couple reds lol
When I compare the output spectrum graph of the Onyx against the Spectrum graph for a quality HPS like the Hortilux eye - there IS plenty of red at the same frequencies between the two - the only differnece I can seein the graph is in the blue area
Any new pics of the flowering girls? How's that all going? Seem like still the same rate of growth as normal?
Growth rate for both the new girls just in flower and the ones near harvest are both as good as under the 1kw all leaves look healthy and the buds fat and sticky No issues at all - in total I have 20 plants under led right now I both flower and veg Will be starting an led grow log in the logs thread prolly tomarrow
[quote=dxe;569361 Will be starting an led grow log in the logs thread prolly tomarrow Yeah yeah we heard that before... LMAO
I just wanted to let everyone know I started a grow there'd for my led grow in the member section Thanks to those ahead of me that did awesome research and growing - this converted me and as many know I am all in now
I think you are going to have to look at the specs for the various units out there to determine the footprint each vendors product covers. The Onyx is rectangular in shape and produces a rectangular footprint. I would use 2 of them in a 4x4 space but it might be overkill in a 3x3 space. Call the various vendors and ask them. What type of light/wattage are you running in that space now??
I'm just getting up to speed on this. have some questions, you grow log looks great, you and skunky are the only ones I know that use led (if i missing someone, sorry) but I have a few questions for people actively using them to grow. I looked at the onyx. I need a new veg light so would you recommend something like this? I figure between hood, ballast, lamp, etc there's no huge difference in the start up cost....but I'm just worried it's not much better than t5s. Have you guys grown with both (t5s and led)? how do they compare in veg? are they really heat free? how far away do you place them? sounds stupid I know, but what kind of penetration does it have? sorry to mean to hyjack, great thread, i need to read a few more pages yet. great info here

nip look back a page or two - i msasured temps, lumens at various distances etc also i used to veg under t5 but went to 600 watt mh - i replaced my mh with two of the onyx veg lights and now have the light output greater than my 600 results are awesome - comparable to vegging under 1k mh
thanks dxe and mrg. really going to give this serious thought. would you think the onyx could run a 2x2 table for veg? Could I push it to a 3x3? I love hearing from people actually using it, frankly I thought skunky was nuts months ago when he started....but sometimes change is a good thing, I love tables now, running bare bulb vert on some...trying to constantly learn new skills from others
one light would just make it for 2-2 but i would go with two to allow your growth i run two in veg - the veg units are brighter - and i cover a four by four area without issue i mount the units on one in angle stock so i can raise and lower as a single unit two units still only draw 440 watts total
