oddly enough, my 2x4 tables kick the 3x3's asses by atleast 20% over n over n over under a 600 with a 30gal res.
Most likely because of the way the HPS bulbs are shaped and spread light. The oblong shape casts a more rectangular foot print than square. Looking good Mr. GJ! How long have these been flowering now?
Yeah, the hoods I got for my 600's are designed to cast a wider field but the outer edges just don't get enough to go 3 wide on the buckets. I use 2 600's end to end in both rooms and have found that spreading them farther apart and going 2 wide works much better. Didn't you say Mr. G that you use 2 400's. That should handle that table and a couple buckets on the end. I really like the 600's but I've got a couple 400's I think I'll bring out of retirement just for that. Great job, You're and inspiration!! Be Cool, CG
Hey CG, One is a 600 watt that can be turned down to 400 watts. At the moment I have it cranked up to 600 and the front one is a 400.
I was in the garden-hydro shop the other day and the we were talking about wattage and heat because I've stayed away from the 1k's just for that reason. He showed me a controller, I assume its a potentiometer, that could reduce the wattage in situations where heat could be a factor. But he wasn't really sold on the theory (not that he's an expert). He seemed to think the ballast would draw the same no matter the setting. The output to the bulb was the only factor. Physics class taught me that the electrical energy going in had to be converted to some form of energy either light or heat. So, does the ballast get hotter when on the lower setting? Inquiring minds need to know. Be Cool, CG
Never thought it may have 2 transformers. Do you change the bulb when changing the setting? Inquiring!! Be Cool, CG
Hey CG, the rear ballast is a 600 watt, and I only run a 600 watt bulb in it. The ballast has a dial and can be turned up 10% higher, or turn it down to 400 watt and use the same bulb. The 400 watt ballast firing the front bulb can be turned up 10% higher as far as light output. So needless to say, I have both of them cranking. :bong-2:
Must be the high dollar electronic ballasts. All mine are magnetic. They're all Sun System, not the cheapest, and they do have a 5 year warranty. But they've paid for themselves several times over. I keep telling myself to go electronic but seems every time I go to the shop they have a magnetic on sale and I jump on it. But the cost savings allows me to keep a backup in case of a problem. Be Cool, CG
Hell, that's the same or less than a new 600 mag would cost retail. :goodjob: How long have you had them? Been getting away from the original topic, sorry. So how are the pretty ladies doing? Sure they're getting thick and starting to flower away. Didn't you say they both are 9 week strains. Both of mine are supposed to be 8 but will range from 7 1/2 to 9 depending on the season. Plan on going either tomorrow or Monday to get a tray and some pots. I've got 8 girls in the EZ cloner with roots hanging in the water. Need to do something with them soon before they get sucked into the damn pump. Throw us a current pic up so I can hopefully see what the future has in store for me. Be Cool, CG
Those are looking great. Do the pumps coming on generate much of a noise level ? Behind a closed door would you hear them running ?
Hey FF, they have been in flower for 19 days today! Im extreamly happy with the switch to ebb and flow. Hey bigbudztoo, the only thing you hear is when the pumps first shut off and you hear the water drain back a little for mabe 10 seconds then nothing else.
Well the plants have pretty much stopped stretching, so I performed a final defoliation of any fan leaves covering lower bud sites. Both lamps are about 20 inches from the top of the canopy. Now we are just waiting for the buds to develop from here.
