Hey Grat I too just looked through the whole thread!! WOW great job on the Cabnit and Grow!! That looks like the same Cabnit Iam looking on getting from LOWES!! Right now it's on Sale for $ 109.00..I like the way you have everything set up I may take a couple ideas from YOU !!! Good job again!!
Wondering if you ever figured out a way to seal the hinge side of your doors... I've got a similar cab and am kicking around different ways of doing it.
I have something similar but with two doors that swing open. To seal the doors I loosened the hinges and pulled the doors away a little bit, then lined the actual cabinet with the weather stripping crap. Adjusted the doors back and no more light leaks.
Just wanted to chime back in and say Great job on the set up and costruction of your cabnit! I am now going to admit that I just went out and bought the same cabnit and will be starting a construction thread of my own come so come check it out! Grat thats for the great idea on the set up of the cabnit YOU have inspired me!!assit:
I have that exact same cabinet, I WAS going to do something similar.. Instead I sold it got a grow tent, and used another cabinet for veg.
Grat did an amazing job on this cabinet! Real Great work! Its a big step up from my cabinet I put $100 into my whole cab; Grat has more than that into one fan.. GFam
i like i like, very nice setup u have there i might have to invest some $ into something like this.:icon_thumleft: :ty: microsMYname.
Glad she lives! Hey all, glad to see this thread still serving the community! I wouldn't have guessed that it was going to get so many views. JK420 - That's quite an endorsement, thanks. Neon - nod. Months. Zepp - That's what it's here for! Steal what you can use Be sure to check out Weedwacker's thread too. Looking forward to seeing yours. Like I've said, I'd love for the GK DIY section to be a draw to the forum. C-n-B - Over time everything I've tried has worn in some way and has needed ongoing attention. The weather stripping just got worked out of the gap by the repeated movement of the door. So then it was sticking out the back side of the door, not sealing. I've tried a couple of types of weather stripping... Every few months I have to do something about it. I'd be pissed except there's so much F-ing weed! Skunky - that's what I did and it just keeps getting worked out of that gap by the movement of the door. So I have to keep redoing it. I've also tried foil tape reinforced by duct tape it's pretty good but not 100% after a few months of movement. Let me know if you find something that works well long term. This issue with the doors is why if I had it to do over, I'd go with the coleman cab that Weedwacker used. Gfam - it's all about the produce right? I did what I felt I needed to to be stealthy and efficient. I'm pulling 6oz+ every 10wks. I'm happy. And I know that I don't have everything dialed in yet...I know More is possible...and forthcoming! mMn - thanks, hope you do. Peace all Grat
how is that panisonic fan doing for you? Seems to me that you could vent the whole cabinet with that fan. minus the light. very nice set up. I appreciate you and reaper posting your endevors. I am follwing your guides very closely in my planning.
The fan. It's a great fan! If you have a little more breathing room than I you might consider the next one up from what I got. The Veg side exhaust is a little weak...but it quiet, the noise is NOT going to attract attention. And as I keep saying 57w! The next size up is still a 6" but is about 300cfm, still under 100w...a little bit louder. Have fun planning! That's the part that should take the longest Grat
I been thinking about these fans for exhaust still and I think I am going to go with the same one as you. I used a cfm calculator and our cabinets max inner space is around 42 cu ft. Which only requires 67 cfm and that would change the air in the cabinet 1 time per min. Which makes these fans overkill. Which provides breathing space for the 90 elbows and having a y to vent the 2 sides of the cabinet. For $25 more I could go with the 340cfm version which is the one you might recommend if I have the room. I am just not really sure its needed. The bigger one is rated for a room that is 300 sqare ft. Did it end up being more quite than your computer fan? And have you had reduced odor? I am sure you have good results. but I keep looking for the discussions on wether its better to pull the air through the filter or push it through. I am considering making maybe 2 smaller filters and have the air pull through the filters. One on each side of the cabinet. Let me kow what you think. EDIT: I decided to go with the same one you got. I can sit and plan and think forever if I let myself. So its a done deal. Yet another member of the panasonic fan club. pun intended.
Speaking of stealth....I have this big old fridge in my garage I used to keep extra beer in, back in my drinkin daze....could a fridge be used as a "cabinet"? If the shelf of the freezer were c ut out, the old fridge could easily hold eight plants, four on a shelf in the middle, four below...so, I guess you'd need two lights? . Im assuming holes could be cut into the back for exhaust and air-in fans....? What kind of lights? Talk about discreet....who would even bother to open an old fridge in somebody's garage? Dixie
wow Wish I had saw this earlier Grat, great stuff. I am thinking of making something quite similar. I might have to borrow some ideas from you. BTW I only just noticed, but great signature, I love me a good Taoist proverb, simplicity is best.
Hey every body! Hey LEDJ! - Glad to hear! The one thing you didn't specifically talk about is the airflow restriction caused by the scrubber. It's too significant to omit. Yes the cab is absolutely quieter with the fan/scrubber combo than it was @ the beginning when it was just the PC fans! It seems to me that EVERYONE was telling me to have the fan PULL the air through. By that time that discussion came up my design prevented me from switching it. Mine pushes. Again, overkill makes the difference. So the most ideal is that the stinky air would enter the scrubber then go through the tube, then fan and out. Mine is backwards but it WORKS. I know I could detect the faintest hint for the last 1.5wks of flower when the Cheese was in there but nothing else has gotten through. Speaking of word play... Whisperline - the best kept secret in indoor grow ventilation. Damn it DH, for a sec I thought Whisky Kid came back posted...he was my best thread pal when this monster was in progress. DH - Reeferidgerators are great. I've not had one myself, I don't have the tools to cut metal. There are threads out there about it. Pretty sure there is at least one on GK. The HUGE advantage with that is that it's Supposed to make noise! That and the fact that they are already air and light tight (unless you mess that up cutting holes) What's a scrubber? Do you mean to say that you totally missed post #75?!? http://www.growkind.com/forum/showpost.php?p=297836&postcount=75 There it is. I never imagined this thread would live and grow like this. I thought I was being ridiculous and bordering on obnoxious when I chose the title...seems it worked out well WillGrow - thanks... speaking of virtual personal identifiers...your SN! It brings up things for me. A lot of ppl are saying "shit's going to hit the fan" talking about stockpiling...holing up...killing ppl...I don't get it. I hope we see some major changes, I hope we get to use some survival skills...I'm not going to kill anyone. The funny thing about your SN is that food grows. That is how it is produced/comes into being. Only in the context of this site does your SN make sense (and it's a funny joke and I do get it). Other than here you'd just drop the word "for" and Will Grow Food works great! That's the thing though...we are Growers. When "the shit hit's the fan" we shouldn't hole up, we should plant! Move it outdoors! I'd love to be proficient with hydro but what if you can't buy nutes? I wanna be know as the guy whose out planting gardens in ppl's back yards or building window boxes for apt dwellers! This is a rant that deserves it's own thread but this just sorta came out. Cheers all! Grat
How are things going Gratitude? I have gotten my panasonic whisperline fan in. I almost got the bigger model but ended up getting the exact same model you did. Thinking about the turns and actual filter providing a loss in CFM I think I have an idea to scrub both sides of the cabinet and only use one filter. Basically I have made bottom shelfs that are very much like Weedwackers. Air intake and baffles to route air to front and back of the cabinet as well as block light. So I am thinking about doing my top shelf much like yours. however I am going to put the filter on the intake side of the whisperline, let it pull air from boths sides. I may use a few pc fans to pull the air out of the veg and flower side respectively but thats only if the whisperline doesn't have enough of a vaccum. And I think it may. The exhaust the whisperline out the top of the cabinet. Now I need to figue out how I am going to exhaust my cool tube and cool it. I think I am going to fix my light in one position and use disks like Weedwacker uses to raise and lower the plants. Let me know what you think about the whisperline ideas. The only other thing I could think of was putting a Y on the intake and making 2 smaller carbon filters. one fore the veg and one for the flower.
Gratitude whats up? I got my whisperline mounted. I mounted mine the the upper right hand side of the cabinet with the exhaust of the fan going through the top of the cabinet. It ended up being a little bigger than I imagined. I don't know why I thought it would be smaller but even with your square becide it in your pictures I somehow misjudged the size. That isn't to much of a drawback because the hole I made in the top of the cabinet I can if I choose to at any point move the fan on top of the cabinet if space inside the cabinet becomes an issue. But I will only use one filter this way and there are no bends or 90s. Just a filter on the intake and straight through the fan out the top of the cab exhaust. I know I need to get you a picture to show you but I am still a little leary of posting snap shots.
nothing to offer, just to say i voted excellent on this thread too much info for a newb to digest in one sitting but this is great shit thanks for taking the time
Hey LEDJ! Glad to hear you're making progress! It is huge huh? When you think about it, it's in sound dampening box, which I would want to build if I had any other type of fan I'd bet. It's space well used, but it caught me off guard too. Sounds like a good plant with less airflow restrictions...I think I can picture it...but a pic or 2 would be cool. Does it have plants yet? Good Growing either way! assit: Uh, hey Toker2? wanna hit this? assit: Grat
