I got a few questions. First of all my veg side wants to stay real warm. I have installed some 12v cpu fans to vent my lights but I am thinking I may need to try and figure something else out. I may need to add some intake fans? I was just wondering what your veg side temps stay around. I haven't even finished the flower side. Well almost. I need to still vent the cool tube. other than that though it is ready.

My biggest question is with the hempy method how do you keep algae from forming on the top of your perlite mix? Mine seems to be turning green when I went to using nutes half strength.

Don't feel bad about the algae...mine did the same, I don't know what is causing it. Heat, moisture???

My veg side is running about low 90's at the top and low 80's on the bottom where my plants are.

    That's a Weed cookie right?

I usually make Molasses cookies myself, they are great for air travel!

Thanks AJ, Res, and Nugg, yes I'll share since it's a big cookie.

    Ok now for the update.

I've purchased 2 small/cheap bat wing reflectors for the flower side and the upper veg shelf. There is better airflow in the light chamber with the open reflector rather than the one that was using to start. The veg side is also more efficient now than when I was using the white ceiling to reflect the light.

I also had to replace one of my CFL's and to my dismay couldn't get that wattage from the Bluemax co. anymore. I ended up getting a 65w 5000k to replace it.

16mo. later, I replaced the carbon and inner hose on the scrubber. And cleaned the PC fan that exhausts my veg side to the scrubber compartment. My temps dropped 6 degrees immediately. That made me smile:thumbsup:

The only plant that has ever gotten past the scrubber is the Cheese. I grew it when the scrubber was new and I could smell it during the last week of flower. I haven't grown it out since then...till now. It's @ 5wks and I can smell it if the apt is closed up so I figured it was time... I still have carbon left from that original purchase but not quite enough to fill it a third time.

I'd also like to note that my best run in this cab produced 218g dry.

    3 plants in 3 gal pots, 1 WW & 2 Euforia.

Thanks again gang! Glad that all of my time and effort on this thread is helpful beyond my own needs. My Cab is a better place because of GK's members!

P.S. I know everybody likes pics so I'll include one from the WW/Euforia thread. This was 54days.

    excellent instructable!

    Is the scrubber in there?

If so how often do you change it?/clean it?

What kinda temps does the box run?

    :pimp:

Yes GG, there is a scrubber:thumbs-up:

the post where I installed it is here, #86

The scrubber construction is here, #75

I know this thread is a lot to wade through at this point.

I change the carbon about once a year, I've done it twice since completing the cab, I've still not finished that first box of carbon I bought.

It's really easy to forget but we should all clean our fans and glass (bulbs and reflectors/shields) at least quarterly or we are loosing efficiency.

The temps are about 5-10*(F) above ambient in the flower chamber. Pretty much @ ambient in the veg side.

Thanks for checking out the thread, hope ppl can use the ideas, or at least come up with their own ideas sparked by inspiration from mine.

    Very Cool

I want to make one of these soon, but I want to go at least twice as long, and possibly larger diameter as well.

I wonder if using window screen material instead of pantyhose, with a blanket of the polyester batting around the whole thing would work?

The pantyhose seems to be the worst part of the whole thing.

If it was 2x as long and bigger around, you'd probably have to special order the pantyhose or find a special store...it was a struggle to get those on and I got the biggest ones I could find at a "normal" store.

Functionality is great, putting them on (the scrubber)...not so much.

I feel sure that your proposed alternative would work in terms of airflow, the only potential problem I see is containment. It could be tough to seal the ends well enough to keep those tiny pieces from falling out. The hose, takes care of that by itself.

I would like to point out, that all commercially produced scrubbers run the reverse direction. They all suck (literally), mine pushes the air through from the inside. I do believe that the reverse situation would be better, but mine is effective for me. By the time I figured out that it should be switched it was too late to change, I would have had to put some holes in different places to accommodate that. I would advise designing yours to pull the air through rather than pushing it like mine.

Let us know what you end up doing:thumbs-up:
