From one clset grower to another ....


Ok man,your getting top advice left right and centre on this thread and your taking heed unlike others who come on ask questions then ignore all advice and start suggessting some 2 bob advice they read elsewhere which doesnt enahnce their grow in fact it hinders it. The comment i made about making 3 small incisions ,forget that for now,thats just a way for experienced growers to promote root growth but these are all things you'll master after you have trial and errored your 1syt few grows. I too grew in limited space,i couldnt have an exhaust to take bad air out so all i did was during the 18 hours light cycle(i usually wemnt from 24/0 to 18/6 then finally 12/12).


I would open the closet door during the day,i was lucky enough to have a window near my closet and i was 3 storeys up so i used a tumble drier tube from my grow room to get rid of the stale air.I never spent thousands on my grows but i did spend on the essentials that enhance your grow.I see your using floros for vegging,this is whats causing your stretching,you need stronger light and better spectrum's in there but fear not, a stretchy plant can and wil still turn nice if you give optimum conditions.


As alienbait:ab: rightly said,lets not make it too complicated.Get your basics sorted and the rest will follow.My 1st grow was real ghetto,no mylar,no decent soil,no perlite,no vermiculite,no worm castings,nothing.Not even a scope or ph tester.Just a shitty 2 fans. I didnt know much about LST-ing back then either or i could have worked some magic but all in good time.


One of my best grows in a closet was the last one i posted on here in 207.It was a small closet,i tiled the floor with chrome to keep the base at earth temps during the night,they were cheap tiles from a homebse depot. I used to put seedlings into small pots then replant,i found that a waste of time.Now i just put the seeds after they crack about knuckle deep in a 5 gall pot with bio bizz organic soil (with added perlite and especially vermiculite but only after the 3 nodes appear and they get past seedling stage and ready for feeding).These [perlite/vericulite]hold water and nutes meaning less chances of over watering or over feeding which causes your plant issues.


I gave up using floros unless i had clones on the go at same time as a full grow.An old aquarium with the lights worked fine for vegging clones till they were ready to move into the gow room.Hell sometimes when i didnt have a seperate floro chambr id simplty put my clones om a jot spot on a window frame then put them in the grow room in a sahded part,you do what you can till you prefect your craft.Not that iv perfected mty craft compared to other guys n here,im The Apprentice and always looking to leanr new methods


I would grow seedlings under my 400wHPS.I would raise the lights as high as i could until they were ready to take more heat so i would always lowwr them.,YOU CAN ALWAYS TELL IF THE LIGHTS ARE TOO CLOSE-Place your hand on tip of plant,if back of your hannd feels to hot then your pants will be cooking. Also regarding watering.I always misted the soil a good soaking so that if i stuck my finger in the soil then i could feel the moisture up to the knuckle of my index finger. I posted a nute schedule long ago on here for bio-bizz but most people seem to use other products,i just found a duch one that worked for me and stuck with it.I vegged my pot of gold plants as long as possiboe and you can tell a plant thats had great vegging as its bushy as hell.Patience is prolly the best thing you can learn when it comes to growing,never flower or chop too soon.These are all things you'll learn.

As for CO2,i wouldnt do thatyet.See how your 1st grow goes,try open the closet during daylight hours so not to stress the plant.Theres are things you can buy like Ozone generaotrs which control oxygen quality,theres ozone purifiers,etc.So theres defo other avenues you can explore to deal with these issues,ebay sell them cheaply enough but like i said ,get a grow under your belt and see how you do.When i did my ghetto grow when my temps were spiking past 80 odd dailyMy plant ended up swith dense dank packed buds but if you dont check the middle of your buds daily then the temps WILL cause white mold to form,once that happens cut the bud out like a cancer but i was lucky.I hgave my plants an extra few weeks than i should have and only then did SOME mold appear on only the middle of the main cola,i lost about a quarter to mold but my grow was a success and some of best weed iv grown.


I eventaully progressed after a few ghetto grows i accumulated enough cash to spalsh out on all organic soil,all bio bizz products(bio grow for veg,biobud bloom and biotopmax for the 2 stages of flowering.Buy a laser scope or jewellers loupe fopr keeping an eye on your trichs,etc.I even bought litle gadgets like a heat spot eliminator that attacjd to my lights.I doubt it reduced heat but what it did do was reflect lumens to parts of my grow room and plants that werent getting the lumens the rest of the plants were,it was cheap but cheerful and id reccomend it.I had a miller beer fridge in the grow room on a shelf with all my fresh water and nutes and grow bits.I even manged to at one time have several planta growing in a small space with only 400 or 600w hps and thats not gnrlly reccomended but it worked.I always use mylar,always.and vermiculite.I rarely hear people on here using vermiculite but for me i was advised about it from a grow guru on here and used it ever since.


I think you could utilize your space more.Instead of propping your pants up get a 400w hps and chains to lower and raise them. Also remember and flush your pplants before you star flowering just to get rid of all that nitrogen from vegging.Same at end,i would flush then lave for a week then a week after the last nutes flush again.Also before i closed the grow down i gave my plants a day with no lights,water,nothing.You'll find little tips that work for you.Some people say dont cut fan leaves,others say it helps but thats only via trial and error you'll leanr these tips and from reading forums and books,even check out our grow videos,etc. Im tired and wated just now but theres lots more id sahre but dont want to complicte things.Its a weed,give it conditions similar to what nature gives it and your finbe,give it optimum conditions and your laughing.Iv had yields from plant indoors before that i know people on here would question if im being honest but its all down to the TLC you give your plants.My plants were my living for me and my family so i mde sure i did it right and i listned to GK legends like skunky,duffman,useless from day one.Now we have new legends,you only need to look at grow loogs and gk calendars to see whose got it going on right now. I wish you luck and remember you'll never get bogus info from anyone on here cos we would ban their ass!!!


Heres a peek at my grow thread,it was very detailed and i covered every angle of the grow room including shelfs above it and stuff so maybe this will give you ideas for your future grows.This was one of my fav grows,in fact its the last one i documented on here,iv grown since but mainly cheaper strains and not to the standard of the pot of gold in this thread.I did experiemtn with growing feminised seeds from 12/12 but thats just cos i was already well into my grow and was too impatient ,i had plenty seeds so othought fuck it,i'll try flower from seed.It turned out ok,great smoke but i read back now and think "wow,wtf could or would i have had if id vegged them as long as my POG strain".Again you live and learn,trial and error.


But again iif i could beg you to do one thing its to immediaetely get 400w hps in there,some perlite/vermiculie and decent nutes.I used bio bizz nutes and soil nearly every grow i done except a breif flirtation with cannasoil and other products. Anyways check this old thread of mines out and see if it inspires you as i see your using a small area like me.Iv always grown in closets.Iv had full rooms before but that means more wattage HPS,more expense,more cash. In this space in my thread you can see i had 6-7 easily bushy plants under my HPS in a small area.Ok so my blueberry runt didnt turn into uch but to be fair that was given to me and always looked half dead

Your on a learning curve man,stay enthusiatic.Your doing goood for a new grower


Your grow area is what yu have,i was always limited to bedroom clsets or sometimes box room clsets but they were always near my front door which makes smell a problem and thats where things like ozone generators and purifiers come in handy but as i said,dont go spending lots of money until after this grow kis done.No ones first proper grow is pefect but its from the mistakes that you learn what better to do mnext time.All i would change right now if i was you is to bring in 400wHPS lights,even a cool tube and heat spot reflector like in my thread,they dont exactly reduce heat like they claim but they do send lumens to parts of your grow room that dont naturally get much light.


Also if space is an issue then you really should investigate LSTing -low stress training.Start with gently pinching a stem then eventually just like if you constantly get a cut on the same area your skin grows back with thick scar tissue well this is what happen with your stem and it can double the thickness of it and also make it more durable and moveable so that when you want to star tying branches down later,they dont just snap cos you have trained them for a while to be flexible.LSTing has many benefits,a normal plant with one big cola and many popcorn bud sites can,if trained properly become 4 main colas. With experience you will learn to cut away the popcorn sites at the bottom of the olant that arent getting any light,either that or ie back fanleaves to let light get down the plant.I can hinestly say the first time or first few times i was introduced to LSTing my yield age definitely increased, noticeably.


Theres many tips and ways of utilizing th space you have but i dont wanna start complicating what should b your learning cuve.Enjoy this grow for what it si and dont be despondant if it dont tun out like othr members like MGJ,i can grow for years and still not achieve what he can with his grows,bu defo get some HPS lights and then you can get rid of the shelf system,put all your ppants on a base on the ground and lower the lights as required.Your on your way an,i lobe seeing a new grower with the buzz for learning and im glad your getting help from our GKers.Our guys only get pissed of when they give advice thats ignored or when someone dont do their own leg work then blames others for issues,etc.Your doing fine,yeah changes need made with regards to lighting,i say this cos your plants will stretch less,thicken out more and you'll never get buds the same using them lights as you would HPS,but if thats all you got to work with right now then just go with it.

If you had HPs and go rid of the white shelf sytm in the midle of your grow hen tjhats spae for some gallon pots on he ground and you lower the lights and as the plants grow you raise them and you will get bushy plants aswell as tall,then thats when i start to LST but NOT before pre-determining sex,this is easier than it sounds.I dont wanna give you infio overload just now but if you can get HPS in there and clear the space and put your 5gallons on the ground. I know your using it as a veg area just now aswell but trust me it will only slow your grow and yield less,too many issues,take it from one whose done it.TBH now id rayther veg under my HPS s long as the heights safe.Stick a few fans in there and try not to worry too much about your temps spiking if you dont have a window or ozoen purfir/generator.Like i said to you i idnt have nothing t take the stale air out 1st ime round,i just paked fans in there,those inline fans that are tall thinn and can rotate are great as they kep the air pretty good.


Really when your temps spike its mostly mold in the buds i worry about,although yes i could cause plant to hermie but these are worst case senarios,it didnt happen to me or ohers.People on here are simply trying to give you optimum advice but one thing i learned early on nack in the day is each grower has his own ways that work for some things like the temps cant be helped and chanes are your gonna still get a return on your investment and this will let you see close up what temp spikes and suck things CAN do,sometimes i think its better to eperience problems rather than read about them.No subsitute for solving a pratical problem rather than a heoreical one.All i'll say is PM m anytime you need advice,dont be afraid to search GK archoves for quesion you wanna ask that might have been askked before but also dont be shy to ask queswtions.As lon as peole see your putting in the effort to learn then your never gonna get ridiculed man.Read some old clset grow threads and check them books out i told you about.Hell iv seen people with no room to gro and they hang 70w tiny bulbs all throughout their grow,in bytween plants and allsorts lol


.I've subscribed to you thread so i'll pop in regualr but bncooldude and others have gave your GREAT advice.Amazing to see how people will help as lon as they see a noob is keen and attentove to details and advice.I usually let the regulars dish ou advice but closet grows have always been my passion so i always take a keen interest in growers using the same mediums and methods as me.This time in a few months i'll be same as ou asking for advice on outdoor growing lol.But thats it,i draw the line at closets and outdoors,fuck that hydro shit.I tip my hat to hydro growers but i wouldnt have the patience for it,i like a nice natural dirt farm grow.Happy growing man:jj:

 

Vermicultie and perite work fine together,well every grow iv ever done iv used them both.Perlite retains the water moisture and vermiculite does the same kind f hing for your butes in the soil.I dont see many people using it or mentioning it as much as when i first cme on here but when i 1st came on Gk all the old heads advised me to get hat into my orgnic soil.Its perfect.BTW looking good man.I love tosee a new rower who has ead up,asked questions and then sets about doing it in his own ay but still utilising nfo gained,full marks to ya man.Wish all noobs took to the forum,learning and pputting it into practice like you have .Kudis:icon_salut:

A couple of worms in a potted plant are not going to produce enough worm poop/castings needed to make your plants grow healthier.


Since the worms that are best suited for vermicomposting are surface dwellers, or very shallow burrowers, I can't imagine them doing well in a pot. Especially if you happen to overwater. They also require food that isn't beneficial to the plant and could actually bring in pathogens as it decays.
