Dude, you are way over-thinking everything. The research has already been done. Get a 1k watt HPS and be done with it! It's not even up for discussion, we are right about the light spectrum, lumens, intensity and air flow. Get it through your hard head dude! Your weed is weak compared to ours. If you want bigger better buds, then shut up and listen to us. If you are happy with your mediocrity then by all means continue to do pointless hours of wasted work and continue to get airy little buds and waste a ton of electricity and ... Hell, I don't even know what he is talking about up there....and you got 8.5lb off one plant with CFLs? Really? Basically, do what you want, but the way you are doing it is complete none sense, as has been said. I used CFLs for years, and it doesn't matter if you have comparable lumans or not, they will NOT penetrate the same way an HPS will. There is no arguments to be made or a need for silly graphs talking about color spectrum: HPS is better than CFL, no matter how many you have.
This is silly, why is it even a discussion? Did I see reference to incandescents and cartons of CFL's? A half serious nod to quartz incandescents? :BangHead: Just to humor the logic... Using the rationalized numbers provided for CFL's...You're using 10% more energy to receive 50% of the lumens and 10% of the penetration of standard HID at a negligible savings in up front expense. He'd rather pay more money, do more work, use more energy and get lesser return. Fuck it. Actually the previous owner went for some of Fatso and Madge (Madge an especially fine choice). Ha did I know I needed a big light? I could use two more, maybe a halide or something for the blue end of the spectrum like the daylight graph. Nah I've had HPS lights before... i just wanted to see what I could do with the junk I had laying around. I'm not a commercial grower, I'm a medicinal or experimental grower. It would take hours to describe some of the stuff I've made pot do- doctors still generally don't believe it, but "I" do. Not to mention haven't run the furnace at all this winter. And I wanted the girls to pay their own way so they wouldn't grow up too spoiled. Nah the buds are a "little fluffy", not weak or airy, and well hey they rock the house. they're gooey, and i'd give the THC content somewhere around 15%. They could be bigger and more compact, but that's like saying a woman could have larger, firmer breasts- the buds could ALL be bigger and more compact hahahaha. Noone's perfect. But yes I did get 8.35 oz off one plant grown with CFL's and some quartz tungsten work lights. It CAN be done... NOT to say that's the best way to do it. OIT Eng has a concrete canoe contest, too. Not that that is the best way to build one. But too- I think we'll (we being the MMJ lobby) get a lot more people interested if they know they can approach the efficiency of a 400W halide with an equiv consumed wattage of CFL's. This means hey- a lot of patients are hard up- being crippled sucks. It's a lot easier to get someone interested in a hobby that they have to scrounge up some old lamps and buy a $21 case of CFL's to get started than a hobby drop a grand (easy) up front on equipment you might not decide you want. For The Cause, too. We all know they'll pop for the HPS when the little darlings get bigger. Bill Gates did the same thing with computers, sorta. So I'll letcha know how the HPS rocks.... You're not reinventing the wheel here dude. You're not even covering new ground. There are thousands of cfl grows out there and yes, you're right, it is a good way for somebody to get into the hobby cheaply. But not by wasting two 11'x11' rooms with thousands of watts of ineffectively placed cfl's and misc worthless bulbs. People pull more than you do out of two rubbermaid storage containers put together, with less wattage, and less than 1/30th of the space! I gotta go to work, so I don't have time to get started on that new light you got hanging from the ceiling. Somebody else got this? -tC

By the way, you sound incredibly ignorant when you GUESS your THC content is around 15%...only a LAB with LAB rated equipment will be able to even come close to the THc content. I;m not saying you ARE ignorant, but you're digging yourself a deeper hole with every post you make... Just be humble, that's what all this shit-storm is really about. Whether it's right or not, everyone wants you to be humble and not act like you're reinventing the wheel with every post. Kid- You grow any want you want. Have at it. The issue comes when you make statements like the above. Even your own numbers prove you are nowhere near a 400w HID with an equivalent wattage stack of cfl's. You do read your own posts don't you? When you post statements like that my only concern is some newb will decide that's the route and waste their $$ following suit. A 400w hps set is not a grand BTW. A hobby garden with 400w HID can be set up for as little as $250 if your willing to shop around and keep it simple. That's light set, pots, fert, soil, ventilation. Like I said, grow however you want. Use candles and flashlights for all I care...just don't purport an effectiveness that is not, and never will be, attainable with the gear you insist on using. Spreading misinformation is not appreciated on GK. BTW...8oz+ of buds from plants using the set pictured? Impossible.
Ok, so you used the junk you had laying around... the question everyone's mind is, if that's the case, how the heck did you have so many light sockets in your ceiling??? Really? did those just happen to be there? Not likely. You put them there. EXPERIMENTAL would be the correct word to use for your unique situation. High budget, low quality experimenting is about equal to what you're doing. And we are with the doctors... we don't beleive you. Those people don't go through all the academic training to be fools, ya know. BUT, good job managing to actually grow plants with smokeable buds on them using what you're using. You're still missing the point everyone is trying to make.
